San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chair Terra Lawson-Remer Sunday ordered all County and U.S. flags to be lowered to half- staff on County property in recognition of the lives lost in Minnesota at the hands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
Sunday’s order will remain in effect until the conclusion of this week’s Board of Supervisors meetings that are scheduled to be completed Wednesday.
The order was issued by Lawson-Remer after what she called “the tragic deaths of Renée Good and Alex Jeffrey Pretti, resulting from recent federal immigration enforcement actions in Minneapolis.”
“Lowering the flag today (Sunday) reflects mourning and real alarm,” Lawson-Remer said in a statement. “Deadly federal enforcement combined with impeded oversight is a constitutional breakdown that communities across the country cannot ignore.”

I count today a good day because I haven’t heard a word from Homeland Security Babe Kristi Noem or Trump ‘s Nazi-in-chief Steven Miller. These racist officials, being paid with American tax dollars, finally are silent. Noem is now shown to be responsible for two shooting deaths on her watch this month of constitutionally-protected Minneapolis protesters who were demonstrating against HS ICE and Border Patrol federal agents’ militarized takeover of their city.
Noem and Miller both habitually spin and lie, distorting the facts of the death of “domestic terrorist” Alex Pretti, the hapless ICU nurse from the Minneapolis VA Hospital. But today the New York Times published the truth: a frame-by-frame video analysis of the tragedy. Pretti was shown physically overwhelmed by many masked federal agents, pepper-sprayed in the face, taken to the ground and then shot many times at point-blank range while lying face down on snowy pavement.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem should be impeached and Steven Miller should be fired. Congress
should not fund another penny to ICE or CBP in the coming budget vote and it should set about reforming all
that has gone haywire with our too-complicated immigration system since the amnesty granted by Ronald Reagan more than 40 years ago.
Trump is a racist and has always been a racist. His “big beautiful budget bill” is lavishly funding and weaponizing Homeland Security agencies like ICE and the Border Patrol; vastly expanding private detention centers to hold the many people being arrested. Trump’s agents are raiding homes without judicial warrants; they are taking citizens and non-citizens off the streets and out of their cars based on racial profiling. And now they are killing White protesters by any means necessary.
It is unconstitutional. It is criminal. It must be stopped. It’s up to Congress and the Courts to act, to restore order and democratic process, to make the rough places plain. It’s up to us, we the people, to make our voices heard and to demand redress.
