Smuggler’s Boat Capsizes at Ocean Beach, Surfers and Lifeguards Rescue Survivors — A Video

Here is a dramatic video of a smuggler’s boat capsizing at the shores of Ocean Beach Saturday morning, January 25. Surfers and lifeguards help rescue the survivors. reportedly one immigrant didn’t make it.

The video is by Charles Landon who records one interview with one of the surfer rescuers.

  2. Thanks, Frank. A moment in time that say it all! Surfer, swimmers, lifeguards all saving a small part of humanity. Bravo to them all. Do you know how cold that water is (no wetsuits on guards). Thank them all for uplifting the humanity of OB and San Diego.

    1. It was amazing — no issue of nationality, ethnicity, just humans trying to save humans. And yes, I was also struck of how the lifeguards jumped in without wet suits; it must have been freezing! Incredible.

Tuesday U-T: – A 57-year-old woman believed to be a Mexican national drowned when the suspected smuggling boat she was riding in capsized in heavy surf Saturday, sending more than 20 people into the water off Ocean Beach.
