UPDATE: We cannot find the source of this quote and there is great doubt that Gloria Steinem said it. But we like it anyway.
Steinem said she didn’t author the passage
Steinem posted a version of the piece to Facebook on Dec. 8, 2015, as part of her “Top Ten Things I want for Christmas” list. In her post Steinem disclosed that she was not the passage’s author.
Here’s a recent gem from Gloria Steinem ????:
“How about we treat every young man who wants to buy a gun like every woman who wants to get an abortion:
- mandatory 48-hour waiting period,
- parental permission,
- a note from his doctor proving he understands what he’s about to do,
- a video he has to watch about the effects of gun violence…
Let’s close down all but one gun shop in every state and
- make him travel hundreds of miles,
- take time off work, and
- stay overnight in a strange town to get a gun.
Make him walk through a gauntlet of people holding photos of loved ones who were shot to death, people who call him a murderer and beg him not to buy a gun.”

Get your facts straight and look intelligent by actually knowing who makes quotes you spread on the internet like an STD. Gloria Steinem did NOT say that
Wow, that’s quite a bedside manner you have there Emile. Have you never made a mistake? How about a little “intelligent” civility and just politely point out the error and provide the correct information. I have no more reason to believe what you wrote because all you said was Steinem didn’t say it. Why would we want to believe anyone that rude?
It’s a great quote but sources on the internet are saying Steinem didn’t make it and it’s author is unknown. Apparently it went viral in 2017 after another mass shooting. We apologize for any confusion.
It could have been Mark Twain; he was brilliant.
