The Board of Directors of the OB People’s Organic Food Market – otherwise simply known as “People’s” – is making a call on its member-owners to get involved in the democratically-run business. Now in its 47th year (see below).
In the most recent issue of People’s Market News this is what the call stated:
Love People’s? Get involved!
Board of Directors’ Information Table Saturday, August 10, 12 – 2 p.m.
Ocean Beach People’s Organic Food Market’s Board of Directors encourages member-owners to engage in owner activism.
You are invited to stop by People’s Board of Directors’ information table, located at the entrance to the market, on August 10, 2019 between 12 and 2 p.m. Board Directors will be available to answer questions about co-op governance and the responsibilities of the board.
For example, the board requires a non-board member to join the Nominating Committee. Being a member of the board’s Nominating Committee is a great way to work with the board, while maintaining and improving the nominating process. By joining this committee you will have the opportunity to be engaged in the Board of Directors’ election from beginning to end as well as encourage and educate owners about the importance of voting.
As fellow owners of our 47-year-old food cooperative, which includes People’s O.B. Garden Cafe, we need you to participate in our democratically-run business and this is one of many ways to get involved!
And by the way, People’s is celebrating this milestone, 47 years.

OB residents should also go visit the beautiful People’s Co-op Garden Cafe restaurant too. Food is great, prices are reasonable. Two different outdoor seating areas, one on the roof. Big clean bathrooms. Nice modern design.
My only small complaint is they close at 8pm, so no late dinners. Like a lot of people, I only think of dinner a little while after sunset, so 8pm is kind of early for mid summer.
I have been there at least 8 times the past year, ordered almost every item on the normal menu, and have never been disappointed.
