Drive-By Shooting Injured Man and Shattered Glass Door of Winery on Newport Ave in Ocean Beach

Very early Wednesday, Oct. 24, a man walking on Newport Avenue was wounded in the leg in a drive-by shooting. The unidentified victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The victim had been one of several people who had been involved in an altercation in an alley near Newport Avenue and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard about 12:40 a.m. with a guy. That person got into his car, and while driving by next to the victim who was walking east on Newport, shot at him three times.

The shooter sped away in a dark, four-door Mercedes, eastbound on Newport Avenue and then northbound on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.

The victim, 39, told police he did not know whoever shot him. The gun shots also shattered a glass door at the Gianni Buonomo Vinters Winery. No one was inside.

The suspected shooter was described as a white or Latino, 20-30 years old, and at the time was wearing a black hat and light blue shirt.
