Dear OB Rag Readers – Without More Support We May Have to Cut Back Our Coverage of the Village

Dear reader – can you imagine no monthly reports coming to you about the Ocean Beach Planning Board meetings? Or nothing about the Peninsula Community Planning Board or the Midway planning committee meetings?

Or no reports about the status of all the construction projects around the village?

No reports on what the OB Town Council is up to? No more updates on OB’s merchant community? No more local news round-ups?

This could happen if our readers don’t offer the OB Rag more support. We’re in our summer fundraising campaign and have nearly made half of our goal of $2,000 in the first 3 days. But offerings have stalled.

Be like the spouse of an OB Town Council member who sent us $100. Or like a member of the Friends of the OB Library who sent $25. Even a conservative reader sent us $50.

We do have bills and costs and we do pay our writers some, but if more donations don’t materialize we’ll have to cut back on Geoff Page’s interesting commentaries on some of the local volunteer planning committees (we’ll miss his dry wit) or cut down on restaurant reviews and other human interest stories.

Obviously, we’re on the internet and internet is still free. But we are part and parcel of San Diego’s press, and a true free press is just simply not free. Somebody has to do it – and for the past 11 years, we’ve been doing it. But only because our readers and supporters allow us to continue.

So, please make a donation today. Use our PayPal button at the top of the page or mail us at:

Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

  1. This is not a good time to slash news about what’s coming down in the Midway these days and in the time ahead. Some heavy stuff is happening and OB and PL will definitely be affected.

I wish to join the OBrag staff in appealing to readers to step up.

      1. At the right hand top of this page, there’s a green PayPal button; click on it and it will direct you to how to send us a donation; other than that, you can send it by mail to “OB Rag” at OB Rag, PO Box 7012, Ocean Beach, CA 92167. Thank you Pamela.
