By any measure, last night’s fundraiser for the Ocean Beach Woman’s Club was a definite success.
Held at The Holding Company bar and music venue on Newport Avenue, the big draw was the San Diego reggae band, Big Mountain.
Dozens and dozens and dozens of people crowded the gig; raffle tickets were sold and won; the liquid flowed and the bands played and many moved to the music on and off the dance floor.
Alison Lyons, president of the Woman’s Club, told me late in the evening that the fundraiser had surpassed their goals, and had reached at least $5,000.
To celebrate, Steve Yeng, the owner of THC, first brought out several bottles of champagne for the club members and their supporters, then he brought out a large bottle of tequila. Of course, this reporter had to sample it all.
Congratulations to all.
Two other points. One, Steve Yeng told me he’s got some big surprises for his annual benefit for the OB Elementary School later this year. So stayed tuned on that one.
Two, Steve has to expand his beer selection and add many dark porters and ales. He only has one option right now.
