I encourage everyone to call Chancellor Katehi’s office. It was the only # with a live person answering the phone, and the receptionist took great pains to write down everything I said. Demand that Officer Pike be placed on administrative without pay until his case is properly reviewed and appropriate action taken against him; Demand that the chancellor resign immediately for jeopardizing the health and safety of the students she is charged with protecting. Remind Katehi that the whole world is watching.
Never again.
If he tries to say he was following orders then he should be reminded Hitler ordered nazis like him to kill people too, will he follow that order next!
This is America, where peacefully assembled masses do not get harmed by our own taxpayer protectors…
I guess now apparently we do…
How sad good Americans, everyday Americans, are treated like gum stuck to the bottom of wallstreets shoes, trampled on then discarded.
Shame on those who seek to silence any protestor….
In my view, he was definitely just following orders. Doesn’t make him right or his tactics good, but he is irrelevant in the scheme of things. They were told by their boss to clear the boss’ property, and that is what they did. What does that mean if the protestors refuse to leave? Pretty much exactly what we saw. Pretty much ALL of the blame can be laid at the feet of who ordered this. Changing the head of the rank-and-file toolbox that did the spraying does less than nothing to address the injustice of what happened, in my opinion.
Tonight on the news they are saying the officer acted on his own…that he made the decision and just did it.
I find that hard to believe, either way, there was no reason for the pepper spray, all they had to do was arrest them one at a time, pull them up on their feet and arrest them, that simple.
You don`t spray people who are not resisting and the only offense is refusing to move.
Laying blame solely on the officer was not my intent but to what lengths would you follow orders?
Good point Seth but I find in my anger I can only focus on the sprayer, you are absolutely correct though.
Each of these incidents shows the same thing. Absolute disregard for basic human rights, let alone Constitutional
rights. This blatant disregard for our rights and the law by those “in charge” opens the way for the casual acts of
sadism practiced by individuals who are sworn to protect the very protesters they abusing.
It made me nauseous. My impression was that I was looking at a very sadistic person, obeying orders, or not obeying orders, his stance seemed to be one of “look at me, see how powerful I am, ” or a sadistic ego to be noticed. I still feel sick whenever I see that video.
Just a fat bastard, probably bullied at school and by his overbearing father, smothered by an over protective mother, nagged each day by his wife, taken for granted by his kids, his colleagues dislike him, his neighbours detest him… So basically a nobody, big fat useless lard-arsed NOBODY, possibly with erectile disfunction. But give him a badge and a spraycan, he becomes Lieutenant Twat, the macho wanker who will arse lick his superiors to get a pat on his fat sweaty head.

Just a big dude who wanted to be MACHO and show those in power above him that their attention of him would be appreciated.

Sorry, what about the constitutional rights of people who need to move through the area you’re obstructing?
They should have just run them over.
Maybe this will help some occupiers finally understand that popo is NOT part of the 99%.
