Good one, Anna. Today is going to be a very hard day for teachers as the district doles out pink slips. I wish they would give an even harder look at the top — the administrators that run the dysfunctional system. Don’t get me wrong: some are excellent and should be there, but there are people in admin that could easily be let go.

So cool. Being an educator puts one, if they choose, smack dab in the middle of building a better world. With benefits that can’t be measured. Thanks for sharing this video. Actually, though, they’re right. I can’t so therefore I teach. I can’t stand the very sound of most jobs I hear about but in teaching I get to in some way prepare kids for taking them on.

Good video.

We are all teachers (or should be). Parents, wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, friends, siblings, bosses, managers.

And we are all students (or should be). The best teachers are the ones who are also willing to learn, sometimes you learn more from students than you do from teachers. If you are not willing to modify your beliefs, and adapt to new information you will not be very successful.

Teaching is something we should all be constantly doing.

Bless you, Anna. Teachers are not recognized the way they should be – or used to be. I’m proud of you and your accomplishments.

judi March 10, 2011 at 7:08 pm: I hope I can continue learning on a daily basis. Having my foreign language students is a wonderful teaching situation so I still feel like I am doing what I like doing.

A most excellent post. Sadly, two close friends of mine who were teachers for Los Angeles Unified School District have given up the fight and left the teaching profession and don’t seem to be looking back. They have lost patience with all that’s going on and just decided to move on. I wish them all the best but hope not too many others will follow the same path, not that I can blame them.
