A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.
Thanks for the great article and pics! You are true Road Warriors to brave this event… I saw these people promoting this at Comic Con (the same chick in the other photo handed me a flyer), and I really wanted to go, but I have to admit, it seemed pretty sketchy. Glad to hear that it was a legit event, like a mini Burning Man. I hope they do it again, maybe I’ll be brave enough to go some day. Vernon Wells is the man! Can’t say the same about Mel these days, but he was awesome back then… Hey, I grew up in OB… Does anybody remember the “OB FREE BOX” in the alley behind Voltaire St.???
Wez: [after someone is killed] *No!* *No more talk!* We go in! We kill! Kill! We kill ’em! They kill us, we kill them! Kill ’em! Kill ’em! Kill! Kill!
The Humungus: Be still my dog of war. I understand your pain. We’ve all lost someone we love. But we do it my way!
Wez: Losers… losers wait!
The Humungus: We do it my way. Fear is our ally. The gasoline will be ours. Then you shall have your revenge.
[Wez passes out]
The Humungus: Take him away.
[soldiers drag Wez away; Humungus grabs intercom]
The Humungus: There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Give me your pump, the oil, the gasoline, and the whole compound, and I’ll spare your lives. Just walk away and we’ll give you a safe passageway in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror.
[Soldiers start up their vehicles]
The Humungus: I await your answer. You have a full day to decide.
[Everyone drives away]
