We have a president
who commits treason,
an offense that just happens to be
our country’s
most serious crime
and we haven’t called him out on it
at any time
which blows my mind
because there have been times
when engaging in trying to overthrow
the government
came with a steep price,
as our nation once
tied a rope
around a man’s neck
for tearing down the U.S. flag
off a government building
during the Civil War
and there was a woman known as
Tokyo Rose
who, basically, talked trash on her radio show
about our troops and those
of our allies.
That behavior was seen as
aiding and abetting Japan,
our enemy,
and such criminality
earned the perpetrator
a ten year
prison sentence.
Uncle Sam didn’t play.
But here we are today
tolerating a man
who has made treason
his reason
for being,
in our face,
every hour or so it seems
like a machine
ever since he came on the political scene,
gifted at it,
in one moment
letting two-bit thugs loose
in the US Capitol Building
to steal an election,
in another
bullying judges
and discrediting courts
and destroying records
and harboring
boxes of highly classified documents
or trampling on the rights of immigrants
and people of color
and gay folks
or going after
hard-earned social security benefits,
like a fiend having a fit,
or hiring unqualified stooges,
some of them criminals,
to run agencies
that are vital to our wellbeing,
or constantly attacking the rule of law
or interfering in DOJ investigations
or persistently promoting voter suppression…
Need I mention
that he is so preoccupied
with bringing our society
to its knees
that he has
taken sides with a murderous tyrant
who’s playing him like an out-of-tune fiddle,
putting the
security of our nation
and nations all around the world
at a dangerously high risk …
How Un-American is all this?
And he hasn’t even been slapped on the wrist.
And, sadly, the folks who hold the key to
doing something about this
are Republicans in Congress
but they’re reticent to do so
because he now owns them
lock stock and barrel,
making them traitors
alongside him.
So, we’ve got to push them
through every mechanism
available to us
to get them to do
what needs to be done:
make this president
a social and political has-been.
Seems to be the least we can do
to get out of the stew
We the People
are in.
