After the assassination attempt
a Trump disciple was heard to say
“I’m going to vote for him
more than ever now”
and to the question “Why?”
he replied
“You can’t stop us,”
spreading a little taste
of that divisive attitude
we’ve come to expect
from Trump’s MAGA tools
and, as he steps into
his new role as a fist-pumping martyr,
We, the People,
continue mumbling
about what the polls say
and about a debate
that didn’t at all fare well
for the nation’s incumbent president,
while this man, who once failed miserably
as our president,
is bent on
initiating a package of social
debilitating nonsense
that would make Democracy
a concept
that will come to be spoken of in the past tense,
which should have American citizens
getting relentlessly behind Biden
or whomever else the democrats might choose
to run,
like sprinters
reacting to a starter’s gun,
no matter our gender or age
or ethnic background or race
or whether we have a PhD
or a masters or a bachelor degree
or a high school diploma
or a GED,
no matter our political party,
as such things won’t mean a thing,
if we don’t keep our dreams
of a better existence alive,
a notion, based on what Trump
has in store for us,
that will surely die
if we don’t get to
passing out leaflets in the streets
and knocking on doors
and calling and texting
and sending letters and emails
and organizing forums and retreats,
targeting everyone we see
like street preachers passionately
seeking converts
to their ministry,
figuratively
with the force of a hurricane
rushing towards land
from the sea,
leaving ideas
dedicated to destroying
what progress we’ve made as a society
to die in the debris
left by the winds.
All to say that if
We, the People,
were to allow a treasonous ex-president
to occupy the White House again,
there would be nobody to blame other than us
for we have the power,
in numbers alone,
to take our Democracy in our own hands
and treat it with the respect it demands.
Not to mention it’s way pastime
if we truly love our land.

You are right we have the power “Power to the People” unfortunately after the attempted assasanation More people will come out to vote on the far right It will probably give trump a landslide.
The reasoning I don’t understand. The man only cares about 2 things winning at any cost and himself. The country has nothing to do with it. The republican shooter solidified a win for his canidate maybe that was his plan all along.
Some discussion alluded to the shooter being bullied. Maybe it was time to take out the biggest bully for him? Shooting at your own candidate to miss? Sounds far fetched.
So would be burning down your own Congressional building to gain power and blaming it on some Dutch communist you get to murder after his ‘trial.’

Oh how I wish you were right. I fear though, that the only way to get out of this mess, is to get rid of the 2 party system and the electoral college. I know that the electoral college can be a touchy subject, but I truly believe we would have better politicians working more for the people if presidential elections weren’t left to a small handful of “swing” states.
