Big Win for Mira Mesa — Epicentre Is Now Protected from Future Commercial and Residential Development

From Mira Mesa Concerned Citizens

Big Wins at City Hall and the our advocacy efforts!

We got zoning clarification and assurances that discrepancies in the zoning of the Epicentre will be cleaned up and fixed. The zoning will be “Open Park Space,” relieving fears of encroachment by residential or commercial uses. This correction addresses several public records that showed the area zoned for commercial use. Thank you, Councilmember Joe LaCava, for your due diligence and consideration.

2. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) encumbrance has been removed, giving the County more flexibility in Epicentre programming. Thank you, Christina Bibler, Director of the Economic Development Department.

3. The County confirmed that the Epicentre programs will be for all ages. Thank you, San Diego County.

4. Mira Mesa received $1 million back to the Community Fund. Thank you, Andy Field, Director of San Diego City Park and Recreation.

5. Construction on the $55 million Mira Mesa Community Park project will start this summer. Thank you to all for signing the Petition on Park Expansion & Renovation Phase 2.

Mira Mesa is better served when we work together to ensure transparency and accountability in city officials’ decision-making when it comes to protecting our future generations.
