Our Reality Is Like a Nightmarish Dream

by Ernie McCray / November 26, 2024

The other night,
after I had laid my head down to sleep,
I transitioned into that stage
where one loses consciousness
before their dreams kick in
and then
a sign above a lab door appears
that reads
“Mad Scientist at Work”
and I cautiously tip-toe through the portal,
to music with an eerie unsteady beat,
and before me
a Frankenstein-looking-dude
puts the final touches on
a spine-chilling orange-faced man
who wriggles the fingers
of his teeny-tiny-little
grabby hands
that I can somehow tell
he isn’t going to keep to himself,
and before I know it there are
women from everywhere
hoping and praying
that they won’t be touched by him
anyplace or anywhere,
then a voice from nowhere declares
“Time to vote”
and, right then and there,
with the speed of quarter horses,
they, much to my despair,
unexplainably,
race to cast a ballot for him,
and the monster,
in their absence,
comes to life,
dancing to YMCA
in an unrhythmic hair-raising kind of way,
moving only his arms
as his red tie flapped in the air
like it just didn’t care
and he started
whining like a steel guitar that’s out of tune,
in decibels that could be heard on the moon,
making me wonder if my eardrums
would balloon and burst soon
and then he began
self-adulating like a fiendish loon
and, in the next instant,
I’m transported to a field
fertilized by cow pies
and he commences to tell lies
as flies
come to enjoy
the culinary delight they see
and they multiply exponentially
and begin to grow exceedingly
and look hungrily at me
and I’m thinking I’m surely going to die
and I try to run
but my legs are stunned
and feel like they weigh a ton
but miraculously,
after I yelled
“Shoo fly don’t bother me, cuz I’ve got a spray gun,”
they chickened out
and soon were gone
and, as I was bragging to myself
about how brave and strong
I was,
the monster
reveling in his victory
in his bid for the presidency
out boasts me
with how good he is at committing treason
and forces me,
with the help of hordes of people
chanting way off key
about making America Great Again,
to listen
to scary bedtime stories
he had written
about the good that’s going to come
from his administration,
lavishly unleashing exaggerations
that showed no signs
of hesitation
or cessation.

And the most frightening facet
of this unworldly experience
was that I was cognizant
that he was aware
that his wicked actions
could lead
to the downfall
of a nation.

And when I woke up,
before I could say
“Thank goodness it was only a dream,”
I realized
that what had happened
in the dream
fairly well represented
this man
and his hope-destroying inclinations.

And that understanding alone
is more terrifying to me
than the scenes
that rose from my night visions,
leading me
to, more than ever, believe
that We the People
better roll up our sleeves
seeing that we’ve got a real fight on our hands
to keep
this demon
from destroying our land.

He is truly one nightmare
of a man.

I was raised in a loving and alive home, in a black neighborhood filled with colorful characters in Tucson, Arizona. Such an environment gave me a hint that life has to be grabbed by the tail as tight as a pimple on a mosquito's butt. With no BS and a whole lot of love. So, from those days to now I get up every morning set on making the world a better place. On my good foot*, and I hope my writing reflects that. *an old black expression

  1. And, unfortunately, this hasn’t really even started yet because the Dictator isn’t in power until after Jan. 20th. The GOP and MAGA voters really have no idea what they ‘voted’ for, but I guarantee they aren’t going to like what’s about to happen. Economically we are about to be trashed like never before because Trump is an idiot and always has been. A dangerous idiot.

A 25% tariff on all imports from Canada and Mexico? Canada is our biggest importer of oil…look it up! So add a 25% increase to the price of gasoline at the US pump, folks. Didn’t see that coming, did ya? And then add in that Canada is the US’s biggest importer of construction materials, wood. Trainloads go by down in the valley below me daily hauling hundred car-long stacks of finished framing, trusses, sheets of plywood and OSB, beams and 2x4s. Housing costs jump 25% instantly.

And Mexico builds the majority of car parts for US auto maker corporations who moved US factories there…25% increase, too. At least. Your Ford, Dodge, or Chevy is going to get a lot more expensive to fix. Can’t forget Hershey’s chocolate that is all now made in Mexico so your M&Ms are going to increase that much, too. You think candy bars are expensive now? Add another 25% instantly after Jan 20th.

And all those EVs? 60% tariff on everything from China was the threat, so those batteries coming across the ocean will cost 60% more. Walk around your house and look at all the items, including your clothing, that have ‘made in China’ on them. Or Indonesia or Vietnam or Honduras or Bangladesh…you get the picture.

Oh, and have we forgotten that 20% of our total food supply is imported and, just for a small example, that Mexico exports 95% of all tomatoes sold in US stores. How about a 25% cost increase in your bubbling pot of spaghetti sauce?

Nobody wants to hear any of this much less think about it. Trump told us what he will do, and is still telling us so much so that Mexico’s president is about to slap tariffs on everything coming from the US…and has banned Trump from entering their country. Trudeau is already holding ‘talks’ with Trump though he isn’t even president yet.

The wake-up call for the republicans and the MAGA is going to be astoundingly brutal. And it will be spun to blame the Democrats and ‘leftie/commies/socialist/Marxists’ for everything that is about to come crashing down on ALL our heads.

Rest assured that it will happen, it is, after all, what the GOP presidents have done for the last 40 years every time they’ve taken over since Reagan.

And it is why the ‘Great Depression’ of the 1930s was called the “Republican Great Depression” before that name was sanitized. Remember Hoovervilles? Soon it’ll be Trumpvilles, but then with a dictator it will be illegal and subject to arrest for saying anything against the Dear Leader. Just like in other totalitarian states.

And for all those MAGA gun owners, this is Trump agreeing with his NEW AG Pam Bondi about taking the guns first.

Look you idiots, the rulers/dictators NEVER let the general population own weapons. That’s been the rule throughout history. Why do you think that martial arts was developed in China using farm implements and hands/feet thousands of years ago? Because they weren’t allowed to own spears, bows, or swords! The lack of historical knowledge is incredible in this country.

  2. sealintheSelkirks,
Yup. I agree with everything you said.

MAGA is a cult. They drank the Kool Aide. They are sheep. They believe what they are told, not what they see, hear or experience in reality.

Tragically, so many people voted with this cult it’s what defines America now.

    I weep for the future.

  3. This link is not for those that think it can’t happen here.

The on-going Fascist coup that started in 1934 is very close to getting everything the wealthy wanted back then, even going back to the 1890s ‘Gilded Age’ as Mark Twain called it, when there were people and ‘anarchists’ who were so beaten down and stepped on and dirt poor that they tried to assassinate those they could get to that they knew were causing it all…like now and we KNOW who is stepping on our faces; factory owners and Wall St. thieves/bankers etc. etc. The Robber Barons/Industrialists had their own private armies and were much harder to get to, and guns were primitive compared to now like the one just used on the United Health CEO in New York who operated the ‘best one’ for denying claims and health care. Sometimes history does too repeat.

Thom Hartmann takes a very serious look around the world at the madness that seems to be sweeping across large portions of the world at the same time, in oh-so-many other countries. It’s like a Pandemic, one of madness this time but acting like a virus… It’s like the large wars that lead up to the two world wars last century, people go crazy when the worst of our species grabs power.

  4. By the wealthy in this country? You bet! One can also call it ‘Class War’ since that’s probably been ongoing since the Dawn of Agriculture when a few of the tribal members accrued a surplus over others and took power over them.

Honestly Frank, do you really think the ‘Gilded Age’ families have forgotten what the rabble tried to do, or did, to great-grandpa during the latter stages of that era right up to WWI? The protests and assassinations kept going during the first decade of the 20th century.

Or that the 1934 ‘Bankers Coup’ plotters ever forgave Marine Brig. Gen. Smedley Butler for refusing to join their overthrow of FDR, and SNITCHED them out? How come the most decorated soldier in US history (at that time) is NEVER mentioned in History or Civics classes in the US? Oh yeah, he wrote a little book titled War is a Racket, and called himself a gangster for corporations and the Oligarchs!

And since that attempted coup, the ideological descendants have never stopped trying to destroy FDR’s legacy of Social Security and Medicare! So yes, Frank, I see no outward signs of forgiveness there because the wealthy HATE those two programs. Any regulation that contradicts their ability to squeeze profits from anything and everything? Fugeddaboutit.

Our species is generally not very proficient with long-term thinking, but those with generational wealth certainly are. They have to be, to keep that wealth and build on it.

Case in point: Prescott Bush the Wall St. Banker whose bank was closed in Oct. 1942 for ‘Trading with the enemy’ (Hitler) was part of that coup attempt. He was never charged personally for the crime of treason in either case. But he was a traitor! So how did he end up being a Senator after the war?

And his son and grandson BOTH became presidents with his grandson being one of the worst US War Criminals in modern history along with the puppet master VP Dick Cheney. Sure were a lot of Fascistic themes being run in that administration. They also were never arrested and charge for their blatant lies about Iraq and Mass Murder of civilians…just like Grandpa Prescott got away with all his crap. Like Trump has somehow gotten away with all his criminal crap.

Oligarchy has always been prevalent in this country, and it protects its own. And if they can brainwash the ignorant enough they’ll obviously even vote for their own chains. And it’s definitely going worldwide:
