Here’s the complete packet of FAA documents regarding the 5 historic palm trees the City of San Diego cut down this week in Point Loma.
There’s a 7 page letter on each of the identified palms – and except for the palm’s location and height, the letters are identical. Along with the five letters, there were a number of photos of many palms and an accompanying graph.

I just spoke with the FAA and they are not at all happy that the city is telling people that the FAA wants the trees down. They said very clearly that the letters shown here are NOT determinations. They said they want to hear more and they will.
Geoff, this is a bombshell. The FAA is claiming no “mandate” to cut the trees. I hope there will be more Thursday.

What caught my eye:
“If you would like the FAA to conduct further study, you must make the request within 60 days of the issuance of this letter.”
Did Garret Hollarn of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (SDCRAA) ask for an FAA to conduct the Initial Study of the palm trees.
Or did the FAA on their own look at the trees and conduct their own study?
The San Diego County Airport Authority (SDCRAA) has always been shady. In 2016 SDCRAA Sabotaged the use of their Airport Revenue for a trolley to the airport and off-site mitigation

I wondered about that as well. This lack causes me to question the UT’s commitment to local news.
The UT has been irrelevant for the past ten years. Same with the LATimes and the Voice of San Diego. They’re all asleep at the wheel.
While I may disagree with The Rag’s political bent, it is by far the best at covering local news in the OB/Peninsula/Midway areas. The Rag has no peers, honestly.

Sad thing (amongst many other things) about the UT. I have two friends who worked for the UT and had that very opinion WHILE working for them.
