He’s back in the news again. OB’s own “Whistler” Matt Baker who gained national attention and derision when videos of him at the County Board of Supervisor whistling and ranting went viral.
This time, Baker has made an art piece commemorating the OB woman who was killed trying to storm the Capitol on January 6. The woman, whose name the OB Rag will not repeat, was a QAnon supporter and harbored fascist views of Biden and trump. She lived in OB a very brief time and was mainly from the East County neighborhood of Spring Valley.
KUSI reporter Dan Plante, who lives in OB and who recently aired good reporting on the possible loss of OB and Point Loma palm trees, lowered himself to new depths in his absolutely glowing and embarrassing account of Baker and the QAnon supporter. Plante aired a total whitewash of the woman, of Baker and the whole turmoil of one year ago. Shameful. It makes this writer want to boycott KUSI for this dastardly report.
Trump, his sycophants – and now Baker and Plante — have tried to make the QAnon supporter a national symbol, and called her a “patriot.” Nothing could be further from the truth. She was a fascist, believed in overturning a lawful election and replacing the lawfully-elected new president with an orange-haired authoritarian in the failed coup. That she was involved in the violent fascist putsch attempt makes her somebody that most OBceans (and Americans) would like to forget.
For example, Plante said she was killed in the cross-fire. Bullpucky. She was shot while trying to climb through a broken window into the inner chambers and trying to stop the certification of the national presidential vote.
She and the mob were threatening the lives of Congressional representatives, VP Pence, and VP-elect Kamala Harris while they stormed the citadel of American democracy.
KUSI – despite its good local news coverage – is the most reactionary TV station in town; it consistently has derided the seriousness of COVID, dissed the vaccines and harbors a far-right anti-vaxxing attitude. It’s the Fox News of San Diego (not San Diego’s Fox5).
Supposedly, there is at least one memorial to her somewhere in OB. It should be taken down.
It’s too late to be mincing words. We have to call things as they are.

As we all have learned over our lifetimes (at least some of us have but not the wealthy or their shock troops it seems), actions do have consequences.
Geoff: why isn’t that memorial out in her hometown of Lakeside/Spring Valley where so many are under the influence? Seems like that would be a far more appropriate setting under the circumstances.

Dang it! I seriously apologize! I didn’t in my words but just overlooked the link with it in. I’ll try not to make that mistake again. I could post links that are in the story backing up documented evidence but every dang one of them I followed has her name in the link addresses including Associated Press, WaPo etc. Every single investigative MSM link (and other non-MSM) have that name in their link addresses. No way I see to skirt around the edge except by cut & paste… It’s like That Former Guy is always mentioned by name and one can hardly get away from it!
Of course I’d much rather watch the little birds jumping around the suet feeders on the bare, snow-covered apple tree that I replaced yesterday as the sun sets behind the Huckleberry Range than have those names in my head because at least they are happy birds not this sick & awful madness. Even two different kinds of woodpeckers have shown up, Flickers and much smaller black & white checked ones. They don’t care how stupid humans act, ya know?

Well, I guess as an art piece it is sort of appropriate don’t you think? An egg in a box…as I am assuming she IS in a box. Unless of course her family went with cremation.
Personally I’m a pre-paid in full member of Neptune Society. Did that a at least a decade ago as I sure don’t want to burden family with it.

Not sure what her past occupation has to do with anything. Plenty of people lose critical thinking skills the older they get. Usually happens much later in life than hers. I think far too many people nowadays forget (as you seem to have) that actions have consequences. As tragic and sad as her consequences were, it was her choice.
Green, there were a large number of ex and active both military and cops in the Jan 6 attack. And some DC cops were caught on camera fist-bumping these terrorists. Other threads here shows people reading the RAG are aware of this and most certainly have read into it from other sources, so I really don’t understand the snarling ‘delusional sheep’ comment. That label applies to Fox Infotainment and Q/GOP site readers far more accurately than to the RAG readers.
Sorrynot: She wasn’t old, she was late 30s, and it looks to me like she spent her adult years in the military after high school. Is that what you mean by losing critical thinking skills?
And I don’t find her consequences tragic or sad. Pitiful and disturbing works for me along with disgusting and vicious, too. Fascists of either gender have never been nice people.

Seal, The “old” remark was an injection of a little sarcasm. She, being a Q follower, was obviously lacking a little in mental stability/critical thinking skills.
As far as the consequences as a result of her actions, I respectfully disagree. The outcome is sad and tragic. A life was lost that day (actually more than hers), I don’t agree with her politics and very well may or may not have cared much for her as a person, but it was a human life nonetheless. I for one refuse to fall into the Right’s hypocritical thinking. They never say it, but their actions and much of the rhetoric hint or blatantly call for violence to lefties or “commies” as many like to say.
Ha! I’m feeling so old that I didn’t catch that bit of sarcasm. Probably because I’m really not looking forward to myself losing the critical thinking ability. Scary actually as I took care of my maternal grandpa as he went down the rabbit hole of dementia where he…wasn’t grandpa most of the time just before I found him dead one morning. Not angry or anything, just lost and unaware of it. Big sigh.

Those people had ropes to hang people with in their hands as they broke down doors and windows. Do you think they wouldn’t have hung AOC or Pence if they had caught them?
I’m with both my grandpops who fought Fascism throughout WWII start to finish. It is a deranged form of power over others and those that follow it may be ‘misguided’ or ‘ill informed’ but they are still killers actively looking for a victim. As a martial arts teacher 3 decades plus, defending oneself or those unable to from people like this is acceptable and is not tragic in the sense of a baby drowning in a pool. That is tragedy, not her getting shot for attempting to kill people.
Vern: She was an MP or Shore Patrol as they call it in the Navy. A cop. At least I’ve read a couple of articles on that along with the ramming people’s cars in rage and threatening them with bodily harm years earlier. This was a pattern she had it seems.

I would like to think that most of the people who were at the Capitol on 1/6 would not have been there if their so called leader and his cronies would not have “pushed” them to the brink with the lies and suggestions of fraud. To me, the circumstances that led her to be there, are “sad”. No, I didn’t “mourn” her as I would with a family member. When you try to make someone feel ashamed for how they feel as you obviously tried, you are no better than that Any Carrot Demon that started this whole thing.
