Another palm tree bites the dust. This one lived on West Point Loma Avenue. Until it was cut down today, Nov.17.

Is this due to a disease?
The city is doing an improvement project at West Pt. Loma and Nimitz. I passed this area this morning and it appears the city may be widening the on ramp to Nimitz south from West Pt. Loma east. This tree was probably in the way of the improvements. Sometimes these removals are necessary. The intersection improvements are designed to improve safety from my understanding.
I believe they’re (finally) installing a sidewalk here. This has been a safety issue for a long time, and was requested many years ago when I was on the Planning Board :)

There’s gonna be a roundabout in Abbott?! Hope it’s not going to be designed by children like the one on Bacon.

Wow, another one. There seems to be a variety of tree cuttings. For a variety of reasons-airport, road,sidewalk etc . Can the councilmember have a count and overview of when and why some are cut? And the replacement plan? This all seems to be adding up to a great loss of trees. Thanks to the OBRag for highlighting it.
The construction of the ADA ramp on W. Point Loma has been planned for several months and we live right on top of it. The city has been really communicative with us concerning the whole process.
Ironically, I only learned this palm was taken down from the The Rag. There was a smaller one nearby that homeless used for building materials that is also gone.
The new ramp is replacing the thoughtless pedestrian planning from when Seaside St had access to W. Point Loma cut off and the intersection with Nimitz grew to include a giant vehicular ramp to southbound Nimitz. There were attempts to improve it in the past with a ramp that collected dirt and haphazard asphalt which was uneven and growing sinkholes. We are very excited to see this infrastructure upgrade.
