‘Never in My Entire Life Have I Been So Glad that an Election Will Be Over’

in Election, Ocean Beach

Never in my entire life have I been so glad that an election will be over.  At least the rhetoric and mail and robo calls, and people knocking on my door will be over. (I hope.)

Never in my entire life have I been so emotionally involved; so scared; so cynical; so unhappy with people that I have known for a long time.

Never in my entire life have I “unfriended” so many people from FaceBook; and not unfriended them just during the election – unfriended them forever.

I do not think that I can ever be friends with others again that supported trump; that in disguise supported his putting children in cages; in bragging about grabbing women by their private parts. I cannot ever be friends with people again that believed his multiple lies; that told me that they believed that November 4th will be the end of COVID.

Never again can I be friends with people that allowed the President of the United States to make fun of challenged individuals; that disregarded the scientists of the world regarding so many scientific facts; that called our military cowards; that talked disparagingly of Gold Star families; that spoke of hero’s – John McCain in particular, as a coward because he was caught, etc.

And let’s be honest – it is very lonely without these people that were once my friends.

I have voted in 17 presidential elections. I have never missed any election, and I was certainly not going to miss this one, BUT….I have never experienced the turmoil that this election has brought to people wanting to vote.  And I am continually amazed to hear about how many states want to throw out voted ballots because trump has stated over and over again that these are fake ballots; that there will be problems with the voted ballots deposited by mail; ballots dropped off in drop boxes shouldn’t count, etc.

And to think that some Federal judges have gone along with his lies is nauseating to me. I taught history. Honest history.  How will a history teacher teach history today?  What can they say about the president? He is more fake and fiction than reality and truth.  What has this election done to America?

A former acquaintance, a Navy Seal, has already stated that he has bought more ammunition than ever before because he thinks he will need it after the election.  More guns and ammunition have been sold in the past few months to set a new record.

People are talking about civil war; word is that when voting today be careful of the people around you.  What in the hell is this all about?

This is America, people. The land of the free.  The land where we elect our representatives without the fear of being sprayed with pepper spray; without the fear of being run over by a bunch of trump supporters driving trucks, without any fear at all. There should be an excitement about the fact that we are a free nation; that we can elect our president according to our beliefs, not the way some dictator tells us to vote.

And trump says when he loses he will not step down gracefully.  What danger will all of us face if that truly happens.  He thinks that the Supreme Court will be the judge of who wins the election.  The Supreme Court!  The Electoral College isn’t bad enough – now he wants the Supreme Court to make the decision.

Twice in my life-time presidential candidates that had the highest popular vote did not become the President.  I can only hope that trump loses by a huge majority and there is no question about the outcome going to Joe Biden.

And for those of you that disagree with me – to repeat that famous line – “quite honestly . . . .  I don’t give a damn!”

Judi, you are not alone. There is a great article from Reuters this morning about just this schism in our society and IF it will heal.

Thanks for the Reuters article, Peter. It really states the situation as I see it today.

Don’t worry. It’s not anywhere near over, Judi. When the army of lawyers get into court tomorrow morning…which in East Coast time will be in…it’s 1:20am PST so it’s 4:20 and the courts open at 9am? Only 4 1/2 more hours before the real crap starts, eh?

Remember, Chief Justice Roberts, Kavanaugh, and Barrett were ALL corrupt lawyers working for the Wbush stop-the-vote coup d’etat in 2000…and now they’re ON the damn corrupt court of Republican extremists. How’s that for serious IRONY?

I don’t disagree with you but working on a Navy base I DO have to interact with a fair # of Trump supporters in the course of my job. Luckily the two who work directly in my office are pretty low key about it and make a point not to rub other people’s noses in it. They act pretty respectful to the other six of us who hate him.

I’ve been watching “The Loudest Voice In The Room” on amazon prime video. It’s the story of Roger Ailes who created Fox News and all the BS that goes with it. Ailes was a power & control addict. He saw Trump as the perfect puppet-imbecile to divide the nation and spew whatever BS he felt would get him cheers from naive supporters. Ailes fully and knowingly supported the distortions & lies spread by Trump on Fox News. Ailes suffered from low self-esteem. He needed to lead people to a fake politician like Trump in order to feel powerful and in control of everyone around him. Ailes was the Jim Jones of media as a result. Thank goodness both Ailes and Jones have passed away, good riddance! But that left Trump, a textbook sociopath, on his own destructive path. Google the clinical definition of a sociopath and you’ll see Trump fits every personality defect listed. I also urge anyone with an interest to watch “The Loudest Voice In The Room” and read Mary Trump’s book “Too Much and Never Enough” about the Trump family. It should be required for anyone who thinks Trump ever had this country’s best interest in mind. The man and his pathological lies show the true psychosis of a mentally ill man. A man who has needed a good psychiatrist more then a gold toilet. A professional doctor to help him undo the damage his equally mentally-ill father bestowed on him. Trump has failed as a man, husband, father, business owner, and fake president. The problem is, he could give a damn about any of it. That’s as dangerous as Jom Jones was, and farther reaching than our nightmares and nation can afford!

Well, that makes 16 people who watched the failed miniseries “The Loudest Voice In The Room.”

Yep. Not hyperbole.
from “Deadline” (Hollywood):
‘The Loudest Voice’ Sees Soft Viewership In Debut; Roger Ailes Bioseries Least Watched Showtime Premiere This Year.
However, the BOOK by Gabriel Sherman was a NYT best seller and received critical accolades.

I enjoy watching Russel Crowe act but I never considered watching The Loudest Voice in the Room because Ailes was such a despicable character. It was a waste of time and money to make a movie about this man’s life. If they ever do one of these on t-rump, I will certainly not watch that either. Why spend precious moments of one’s life looking at pure evil. The sooner Ailes is forgotten the better.

I read Chris Kyle’s American Sniper. If he were still alive I’m sure he’d be an avid Trumpster who would get a pleasure out of seeing people on our side of the coin clubbed to death. Still I read his book just get his personal account of war and learn more about his personal mindset. Point being I think a lot of people have a genuine curiosity about how evil people become the evil people they are.

Well said, Chris. I do believe that it is good to understand the other side. But, I have a threshold that the movie about Ailes could not surmount.

Thanks Geoff. I don’t know yet whether or not I will see The Loudest Voice. I certainly despite him as much as you.

I found Judi’s article via the link to it that she included in a post she published on the local Nextdoor.com site. But now it seemingly is no longer there. Did Nextdoor censure it?
