Trump meets Emily Murphy

Walter Shaub (former head of Office of Government Ethics) has recommended that people contact Emily Murphy of General Services Administration and ask her to ascertain the election.

It is her responsibility, and the longer she delays, the more the COVID response will be hampered.

Her email address is Emily.murphy@gsa.gov . I hope that an effort of massive public outcry will make a difference.

It’s important to understand that @GSAEmily didn’t become a hardcore party operative. She was chosen because she was one. Murphy has a history of rule-bending and deception in service to Trump. Before that, she was a Republican congressional staffer.

Trumpite at the GSA: Emily Murphy

Do you need some background?

Emily Murphy is mad we emailed her.

Emily Murphy is the Trump appointee who heads up the General Services Administration and is therefore in charge of “ascertaining” the apparent winner of the presidential election so that the incoming administration can access resources and information critical to all the basic nuts-and-bolts running of the federal government. The public doesn’t know much about what she’s thinking.

This is partly because she’s a relatively obscure bureaucrat, but largely because she has, in recent weeks, refused to say anything about why she won’t ascertain the election results, even as the vast majority of the rest of the country and the world understands that her boss has lost and that no amount of haphazard legal challenges will change that. As the most crucial person at the most crucial juncture in a year full of nothing but crucial junctures, Murphy has refused to offer any explanation for why she continues to defy precedent and prevent the team of the irrefutable winner of the presidential election, Joe Biden, from accessing vital resources and information needed to do things like effectively coordinate a response to the coronavirus pandemic.

While we’ve been provided glimpses into her thinking—“I could see in her eyes that she really wanted to do [the right thing],” her predecessor Dave Barram told NPR, “but I think there’s a lot of pressures that she has”—Murphy herself has remained stubbornly mum. She may soon be forced to speak, as House Democrats yesterday demanded that she brief them on what exactly she’s doing. The letter read, in part:

“White House officials claim they are not pressing you to block the ascertainment determination and that you have made this determination entirely on your own. […] If this is accurate, it is critical that you now follow the law and make the ascertainment designation without any further delay.”

The General Services Administration has informed President-elect Joe Biden that the Trump administration is ready to begin the formal transition process, according to a letter from Administrator Emily Murphy sent Monday afternoon and obtained by CNN.
The letter is the first step the administration has taken to acknowledge President Donald Trump’s defeat, more than two weeks after Biden was declared the winner in the election.
Murphy said she had not been pressured by the White House to delay the formal transition and did not make a decision “out of fear or favoritism.”

It’s insane to attack this woman. She did nothing wrong. Biden will still have over a month to prepare if Trump drags it until December 14. But why the harassment on Emily? She works for Trump and if she sends the letter, Trump can revoke it. It’s Trump’s issue, not her.

She can’t do it if one candidate is challenging, even if those challenges look nonsensical. Same happened in 2000. After 4 recounts, Al Gore didn’t conceded, and President Clinton refused allow the GSA to send the letter. You may say it was closer case than this election, but that doesn’t matter. A challenge is a challenge. Trump was slammed by GOP-run Georgia election officials. And they certified the result. It’s basically over. — But leave Emily alone.

I have to disagree, Observer. This is a common idea, that the person you face is not the problem, someone higher up is, so lighten up. One of the best ways to make the someone higher up aware of a problem is to apply pressure somewhere. She is in the spotlight because of her position. This is a highly charged post election atmosphere. Anyone with any sense in that job would make sure they did it exactly as it is always done with no deviations, especially now. She didn’t do that so she focused all the attention and stress on herself, for whatever reason. If t-rump had ordered her to do, or not do, something, she can reveal that and defend herself. The point is that sometimes the one you face has to take the brunt of it because that is the only way, or the best way, to apply pressure. Nothing personal, just business.

About time this unqualified bag of bones got off her lazy set of bones and recognized that Mr Joe Biden was the winner of both the popular vote and that anachronism known as the Electoral College. Her smarmy letter to the president elect should be a warning to anyone looking to hire this bag of air in the future.

I used to live 17 years in the US . But only after I left in 2004 did I noticed that there are 70 + million racists in the US . But that is actually not the worst . The worst is that they don’t care about the truth or the tiniest human decency. Nobody is surprised that the southern states are blowing in that horn . Oh well . But know that starts even back east and in the northern mid West ? . I am shocked .
