The folks at Save Our Access have published an online booklet which advocates a “No” on Proposition E – the measure that would eliminate the 30-foot height limit in the Midway District.

I am trying to figure out how best to vote on E.
Clearly there is a “capital strike” going on against the Midway District. Neither private money or government money is flowing into the Midway. It hasn’t for decades. So I am not convinced that the community plan as it is now can be implemented.
There seem to be two approaches:
1) Get a NO Vote on E and DO THE ORGANIZING to convince the City and developers that people will NEVER allow the 30-foot limit to be broken and therefore get support for the River Trail Park and new low rise development. OR
2) Get a YES Vote on E and DO THE ORGANIZING to demand that the value that the air rights are creating demand as an offset building River Trail Park, other amenities, and of course affordable housing that the community needs.
It is not clear to me which approach will lead to the best outcome.
Most of the blighted properties are leaseholders on city land.
The midway community plan rezones these areas to mixed use commercial-residential and adds some streets and parks, within the 30’ height limit.
The removal allows for taller buildings but doesn’t change the zoning or density otherwise. The two Midway planners working for the Yes on E campaign like to explain that they really wanted to base the plan on over 30ft, but couldn’t because it’s hasn’t yet passed. And yet the mayor already chose a developer proposal with tall buildings without the measure passing.
The proposers each offered two concepts, one at 30 feet and one without the limit. This is one of their selling points. Look at the under 3o-foot concept and there is very little green space. Look at the concept with no height limit and see all the green space. Of course, this is all based on the idea that what the zoning will now allow is completely maxed out.
We must protect our coast by keeping the 30 foot height limit! The whole Sports Arena/Midway area is a congested flood zone.
Listen to Donna Frye, the one elected official; who fought to save our beautiful coast: way before she became our councilperson!
STOP Measure E STOP (Surfers Tired of Pollution) STOP
I’m voting yes on E. Midway has too many strip clubs and is the perfect place to engage is redevelopment. We sorely need more housing in SD, and studies show that by increasing supply, even building higher end housing decreases the cost of lower end housing. The idea that there is a gorgeous waterfront that will be walled off is… not consistent with my experience in the area.
The area is getting redeveloped regardless of whether measure E passes.
It saddens me to see this false information steering people’s votes.
Likewise many are voting “no” because they don’t want to add density. The density is coming regardless. It will not be a 100 acre park.
just say NO.. a sensible approach to confusing modern politics fueled by propane propaganda,
The 30 ft height limit is a sensible environmental plan, we should stick to that…
have we abolished the US constitution which is 222 years old because “developers” wanna?
