City and County officials are holding a press conference today, Tuesday, August 11, in Ocean Beach to “unveil future enforcement efforts to deter large crowds gatherings on Wednesday nights at Veteran’s Plaza.” They will be joined by OBceans Mark Winkie and Corey Bruins from the OB Town Council and Denny Knox of the OB Mainstreet Association.
The presser will be at 1 pm at the OB Veteran’s Plaza. Officials will include Councilmember Jennifer Campbell, Dr. Joel Day, Senior Advisor for COVID-19 Response and Recovery, and Dr. Ankita Kadakia M.D., Chief/ Medical Director, County Public Health.
Sparked by large, irresponsible crowds at the Drum Circle after Wednesday’s Farmers Market where hundreds gather without masks or physical-distancing, the presser will hopefully address concerns by OB residents and businesspeople on the as-yet lack of any enforcement by government.
Complaints of the amount of trash left behind, which OBTC members have personally tried to rectify, of unlicensed vendors, and by late-night loud noises have been voiced recently. The OBTC sent government officials a letter last week with a call for help saying “enough is enough.” Last Wednesday, police officers declared the gathering unlawful and dispersed the partiers.
Meanwhile, city workers wrapped the grassy area with orange fence netting to prevent gatherings.

Interesting how the people amongst these maskhole crowds are not MAGA hat sporting Trumpsters but drum circle hippies. I guess it goes to show that the divide is on both sides of the political spectrum.
Both extremes are full Bat**** insane these days. They’re both obsessed with conspiracy theories and railing against any prevailing line of thought if it meshes with the “masses” or the “mainstream media.”
Glad they are enforcing. Let’s hope it doesn’t just spill onto the sand.
I see caution tape plastered all over playgrounds in the area to keep kids from using the jungle gyms. Why can’t they just close the park until the pandemic is behind us?
Update: NBC7 already posted a video of a non-local tearing down the orange fence. That was never going to keep these people out. They already clearly don’t give a damn about respecting rules.
Well, I just watched the KPBS live stream of the American carnage that the press conference became, with the new fence balled up on the corner, incoherent remarks by an OB council member waffling about freedom to infect others until more education is done, because boy, howdy! Not everyone reads the news, or watches tv, or has a smartphone, etc. etc.
Then Jen gets out there and scolds everyone like a schoolmarm.
sigh.
