Reader Rant: 3 Remedies for the Stupid Wednesday Night Crowds – How to Prevent It From Happening Tonight

I used to get a warm feeling seeing the drum circle and people juggling on the village green after the OB Farmers Market on Wednesday nights. It was quite a unique and friendly sight.

But now with the outrageous, irresponsible behavior of the crowds that gather during the Pandemic those nights – no masks, no social distancing – I find them stupid. And they’ll probably gather tonight, Wednesday, after the market and do it all again. Some guy has a DJ playing loud music and it’s a party-party-party.

So, here are three remedies for OBceans to take in dealing with the stupid crowds.

One

Have fifty to 100 masked-up OBceans with flashlights surround the crowd, with proper distancing of course, and with flashlights shining on them, slowly move in on the crowd, not aggressively, chanting, “Save us. Go home! Save us! Go home!”

Two

As the crowd gathers in the OB Lifeguard parking lot, get 50 OBceans with vehicles to drive in with high-beam headlights on and just start honking. Have the cars simply take up all the space in the lot.

Three

Declare the gathering a BLM protest and so many San Diego cops and sheriffs will show up that it will be over.

This has been happening regularly ever since the virus hit. I run by there at night and I’ve been amazed this has been allowed to continue. I too have always enjoyed it but I’ve been told people who live nearby are tired of the drum noise. Why are the police not giving out tickets? Add to that, the vendors that are set up during the day at the same spot following none of the protocols that regular businesses along New Port have to follow. I’m not a fan of a police state but there are times when enforcement benefits everyone and this is the time.

I was just down there wandering about on Newport. It’s busy. People are already setting up the Wednesday Night Thingy. I would complement the “No Star$s in OB” sign with one of my own:
NO Socks With Sandals!
If you’re going to frequent the beach, develop some callouses on your feet, dang it!

Or you can mind your own business and focus on keeping your own little part of the world as safe and orderly as possible.

Taking action against these fools will only encourage their stupidity and grant them victim status.

Reject their stupidity by politely yet firmly speak out against their stupidity, don’t cooperate with their stupidity, don’t encourage their stupidity, make stupidity during the epidemic uncool. But at the same time make sure you are a good example of responsible pandemic behavior.

I can only hope at the end of all this craziness that my masking up and decontaminating everything in my world will result in cold, flu, and seasonal crud free fall and winter.

The drummers, and the fire people are protected by the first amendment the same as BLM protestors or buskers or even vendors with the law that was passed last summer. This is why the cops cant do anything about it. Now if it goes on past noise ordinance then they can shut it down for the night. But that doesnt mean it wont be back on the next Wednesday night

If legitimate businesses can be fined or closed down for not following the rules, why can’t these people? And, if they are not legitimate businesses, they should be shut down anyway. Needs to be fair to all.

So, I have to ask, why is not wearing your seat-belt or helmet on a motorcycle just exercising your first amendment rights of expression? Why can’t you express your rights by smoking a cigarette inside a store or restaurant? Isn’t it my right to blast music at midnight in a public green space or parking lot? That’s free expression.

Aren’t stop signs and stoplights inhibiting our rights? Okay, the greens are public space, but so are roads and highways. I want to drive a motorcycle down a sidewalk – it’s my right, isn’t it.

Someone once said, your right to extend your arm stops at my nose. …and I have to add I’ve got a big one.

I went for my night daily walk & I got heckled from a few people for me wearing a mask & keeping my distance from the crowd. Truly sad & disappointing.

Just tell them you believe in science and are pretty sure God’s not going to save you from COVID-19. Also toss in that you don’t believe our “President” knows his ass from his elbow. Those are 3 simple opinions that strangely enough, seem to really get people riled up. Certain people, anyway…

Repeat after me: there is no shortage of stupid people, and: common sense is not that common!
Rant- 1 2 & 3 are somewhat amusing: the above^ may take action!
