Here’s more charts to worry and think about – some negative, at least one positive. They’re all from the San Diego Union-Tribune tracking program current as of May 20, and one from today’s issue, current as of May 21.

The first top chart is from today. Compared with last Friday’s chart that we posted, there have been 41 more deaths and 924 new cases.
Here are charts from the SDU-T corona-tracking program. They’re all self-explanatory.
This is a chart to feel good about – the rolling 14-day average of positive tests. Yet with more testing being done, the average is bound to go down – so even this chart has a double-edged sword.
Really a disturbing chart. But with so many “unknown”, its accuracy is undercut.

Frank Gormille thank you for this thorough, instructive important article. I’ve looked at the charts for a month and your explanations make me understand better how to read them and know what is developing in San Diego. I hope this article will break through the fog that seems to hide the truth from populace of San Diego County. I lived in San Francisco from 1978 to 1989 and watched AIDS awareness go from unknown to “not so secret” and then to “taking it seriously” very quickly. Once people realized nobody was safe by ignoring possibility of infection, people cared. I hope San Diego doesn’t have to see many many young people (25 to 45) and or what they see as “people just like me” going into hospitals and being very close to death if not dying before they finally get off the unicorn, take their heads out of the fog and start wearing a mask and staying 6 feet apart as much as possible. Really, how hard is that? Maybe San Diego would be more aware if channels 5, 6 and 9 would tell us that San Diego has 3rd largest number of cases in the state. It took from start, Feb or March up to end of March to get to 1,000 and from then to April 1st to get to 2,000, then to April 19 to get to 3,000 and from 4/20 to 5/21 to go from 3,000 to 6,400. Less than a month to jump to double, with testing up and down all those months. Wake up San Diego, want to open everything? Then show you’re responsible enough to allow for it. Do your part, wear masks, wash hands, stay safe distance instead of crying about losing what you had. It’s not up to the governor, it’s up to all of us!
