What radical, revolutionary rag is spouting this nonsense about every Democratic frontrunner beating Trump in 2020?

Oh. It’s Newsweek.

New poll results from Morning Consult released Monday showed all five of the leading contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination defeating President Donald Trump in hypothetical match-ups.

Mike Bloomberg, an entrepreneur and the former mayor of New York City, had the greatest lead over Trump. Forty-seven percent of respondents said they would vote for him if he were nominated to run against Trump, while 40 percent said they would vote for Trump and 13 percent were undecided.

Former Vice President Joe Biden came in second with 46 percent of respondents saying they would support him in the theoretical race. Forty-two percent said they would instead cast their ballot with Trump, while 12 percent were undecided.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders tied with Biden—46 percent of registered voters said they would vote for him if he were to face off against Trump, while 42 percent would support Trump in is re-election and 12 percent said they were not sure.

Forty-three percent of registered voters said they would vote for Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts if she were chosen as the Democratic nominee. Again, 42 percent said that they would instead vote for Trump. In this case, 15 percent were undecided.

Former South Bend, Indiana, mayor Pete Buttigieg came in last with 42 percent of support from surveyed voters, while 41 percent said they would vote for Trump and 17 percent were undecided. [Editordude: this article was published before Amy Klobuchar’s recent surge.]

The latest results from Morning Consult were based on 35,888 surveys among registerd voters between January 27 and February 2, according to the report. All results from the hypothetical election match-ups have a margin of error of plus or minus one percentage point.

The Iowa caucuses, the first official part of the Democratic primary, took place Monday evening. The release of the results of the caucus were marred by coding issues with an app that the Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) had used to tally results.

The IDP still has yet to release the full results of the caucus, but as of Wednesday morning, Buttigieg was leading with 26.9 percent of the votes. Sanders came in second place with 25.1 percent of the vote, and both he and the former mayor have so far received 10 delegates from Iowa.

These are national polls. We don’t elect the President nationally We elect the President based on electoral college votes. Remember what happened in 2018???

Even if these polls are accurate — and my gut instinct tells me they are not — Sanders and Warren will get slaughtered in the electoral college states that put that Trump creature into office and result in defeat for Democrats much McGovern and Nixon in 1972 and put Trump into office again for another four years.

Good point Zanolli about the national polling. (Did you mean to say 2016 instead of 2018? ) Yet, with the massive turn-out in New Hampshire, the proportional sharing of electoral college votes, there is more optimism out there than I hear in your written voice.

To your assertion about how Sanders will fare against Trump in the EC for those several states (Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, I think they were) where Trump defeated Clinton by narrow popular vote margins, I’ve seen credible sources/statistics saying exactly the opposite, specifically favoring Sanders (vice other candidates for the Democratic nomination).

Trump is pretty much a lock after the racist comments from Bloomberg regarding stop and frisk were exposed. Bernie will never pass with selling a Socialist agenda to America.

no, Donnie, the corruptness of the electoral system is what will put Trump in office again. The majority of Americans are socialists, whether anyone likes it or not. This election will be another nullified popular vote.

Agree with retired botanist, it’s the completely discredited election ‘system’ that we’ve got that would put Trump back for another 4 years. And the neoliberal DNC leadership is doing all it can to lose this election, too, because the wealthy who run it are certainly not getting poorer with him in and they would if Sanders wins. Not much poorer but that class is incredibly greedy and always has been in this country. Hillary stole the primary in 2016 by cheating. Period.

The US suffered a neoliberal right-wing coup in 2000 with the non-election installation of Wbush with the un-Constitutional intervention of the extremely radical conservative neocon Republican Supreme Court stopping the voter count. Unheard of! Nothing has gotten better since then that I can see since computer voting machines are still being hacked by 13 year old girls at computer conventions in Vegas in less than ten minutes…so you know what’s gonna happen there. Diebold was a Republican-owned company and there ain’t much changed but the brand names…and there aren’t any paper ballots to prove anything and the computer programs are privatized secrets nobody can check up on. What a scam this country is!!

ex-Pres. Jimmy Carter said in the last Venezuelan elections that he thought they were the most honest and best run election system in over 90 election he’s been part of around the world. INCLUDING the US. Think about that for a moment!
___________

This poll is baloney and not just because it’s national. It’s a corporate-owned magazine and the owners/publishers do NOT want Sanders in. The owners are wealthy and conservative and their ilk hated FDR in the 30s and they’ll hate Sanders the FDR guy now just as much and will do anything to keep him out. They repeatedly use outdated or lie-by-omission of pertinent facts to mis-inform the public. NYTime, WaPo, all of them are owned by people that hate the new FDR… Anybody remember NYTimes Judith Miller and let’s commit War Crimes in Iraq? Are memories that short?
_______

retired botanist: the problem being is that all the socialism that is going on around us is called something different! Change Fire Department to Socialized Firefighting, or the Police to Socialized Police Forces, or the Forest Service or Army Corp of Socialist Engineers…it’s all how you frame it. People don’t recognize Socialism because they’ve been trained out of critical thinking skills. The freaking military is a socialist construct!

People want a Capitalist society? Then go pay for private fire fighters, private armies of cops, and get out there and pave your own damn street rather than the Socialism of highway street crews doing it. Nobody connects the dots between words and acts!!!

This sucks.

Frank, the problem is that (in my opinion of course) all democratic frontrunners are not in the least Democrats, at least what I understood qualified a person to call themselves a democrat back in the late 60s/early 70s. You can put lipstick on a pig and call it what you will, ya know, but I ain’t a-gonna ask it out on a date Nov. 7th.

A cut from article link below that really rings the history bell in my head below:

“In the 1990s, President Bill Clinton pivoted the Democratic Party into partnership with Wall Street and with the same corporate donors funding the Republican Party. In effect, the Democratic Party sold its soul for corporate dollars. As a result, the Democrats have become a faux opposition party, taking on Republicans only in areas where their corporate patrons don’t have a stake, like abortion rights and gay rights. But when it comes to bank bailouts, forever wars, fossil fuel extraction, and for-profit health care, the Democrats are all in.

You don’t have to take my word for this. Numerous academic studies have confirmed that corporate interests get their way, no matter which party holds power. The comprehensive 2017 study Democracy in America? by political scientists Benjamin Page and Martin Gilens posits that “the wishes of ordinary Americans [have] little or no impact on the making of federal government policy.”

______________

The neoliberal Clinton machine, funded by millions from their good buddy Trump, turned the DNC into Republicans. So the Republicans had to go even farther to the right hence Shotgun Dick Cheney & his little sockpuppet Wbush that rose from the crypt. And now we have Trump whom I think is the direct offspring of the policies of Ronnie Raygun Reagan…whom Obama greatly admired and publicly said so.

Big sigh. I am thoroughly disgusted. The entire setup makes me wanna barf!

I still have my McGovern button by the way. And my Proposition 19 button. Idealist notions are still in my head… :)

Donnie – Bernie’s agenda is hardly “classic” socialism. He advocates what most industrial societies already have. And BTW, read the article. Democratic frontrunners all beat Trump.

I do not think Bernie can beat Trump, I hope you and whatever polls you are citing are right but sadly think you, those polls are wrong.

Hoo-boy.

The privately-owned conservative neoliberal corporation called the DNC are doing it again, and they aren’t even hiding their behavior. But that is what we get when there are only two faces to the US political system we live under. It’s the one-party state, the corporate party, folks, and both faces seem to be owned and funded by the same Economic Class. Which ain’t anybody reading the OB Rag I bet! Why would they bother reading what the, as wealthy Leona Helmsley called the country’s actual taxpayers many years ago, “Little People,” might think? The Class War is getting ugly and it’s really out in the open now.

What can we do to stop a replay of the corruption of 2016? Here’s at least an idea:

If Sanders is Robbed of the Nomination (AGAIN), It’s Time for the VotePact Strategy

https://www.counterpunch.org/2020/03/03/if-sanders-is-robbed-of-the-nomination-its-time-for-the-votepact-strategy/

The wealthy elites that control the Democratic Party machine would rather have a 2nd term of Trump than the FDR New Deal guy Sanders. It’s just getting so stinking obvious that they are completely willing to CHEAT and steal this primary, too. Superdelegates? What a sick joke that isn’t humorous even a little bit. It means your vote doesn’t count. How does that feel?

Does anyone else find it a little strange that all the failing so-called ‘progressive democratic candidates’ that have pulled out of the primary are somehow instantly all on board with the other Trump-clone candidate, corporate-owned neoliberal rightwing Democan Joe Biden, who is no more acceptable than neoliberal corporate-owned Hillary the ‘Butcher of Libya’ was four years ago. Now we know why the billionaires were funding them!

So the Democrats are willing to throw the election rather than let Bernie have a chance to do something right for the 60% of the working population that earn under $40K a year. And the rest of the country for that matter.

These people are nothing but Republican wolves pretending. Just like Bloomberg the vicious racist billionaire who’s been a Republican his entire life was suddenly allowed to be a ‘Democrat’ candidate? Warren was the same, a lifelong Republican. How’s that all work again? Talk about confusing switcheroos! Democans and Republicrats. Isn’t this exciting?

Vote Bernie, the best of the lot and by no means perfect. Far too much of a militarist for my taste, forever wars at almost 20 years and counting in Afghanistan, 17 in Iraq, and the 911 bombers were SAUDI ARABIANS and funded by Saudi Arabians but we won’t mention that because they are our good friends and ‘Allies.’ Reeeeallly? But at least Bernie IS NOT GETTING PAID BY BILLIONAIRE PACS! That says a whole lot about him.

And yes I do remember what the Democratic Establishment did to presidential candidate George McGovern so many decades ago. Haven’t learned a damned thing in all these years, have they? Still tap dancing the Class War on our heads This sucks.
