Candidate Statements Due January 20
If you’ve mulled over the idea already – or even if you haven’t – now is the time to get somewhat serious about running for a seat on the Ocean Beach Town Council. You know, the folks who put up OB’s Holiday Tree and who run the annual Holiday Parade and who raise thousands of dollars for seniors and needy families.
Well, every year, half their Board is up for grabs – that’s 7 seats. And, there’s an Election Mixer coming up this Thursday night, Jan. 9 at Wonderland. It’s a chance to meet the current Board members.
Even though the election is not until the end of the month, Candidate Statements are due January 20. Here are some details from the OBTC facebook and website.
The Basics

The OBTC leadership team is comprised of a Board of Directors of 15 core volunteers who guide the direction of our organization, chair our events throughout the year, and advocate on behalf of the community. Each year, half the board is up for election for a 2 year term – and folks who live or own a business in 92107 are eligible to run and vote in this election!
This means that YOU may be eligible to run for a seat on the OBTC Board of Directors. 7 total seats are up for grabs this year.

Run for a Seat on the OBTC
The 2019 OBTC Board of Directors election is approaching and Letters of Intent are now being accepted. If you would like to take your community involvement to the next level, here’s a great opportunity. By being an OBTC Director you can be an elected voice in communicating the views and needs of the community to the appropriate agencies, be at the forefront of community discussions, take appropriate action on community issues and be a leader in promoting the general betterment of Ocean Beach.
There are 15 seats on the Ocean Beach Town Council Board of Directors and OBTC members elect Board Directors for two-year terms. Half of the Board stands for election every year. This year, 7 seats are up for election. If you would like to be considered for candidacy, please submit your Candidate Statement by clicking the button on the right side of this web page by Monday January 20th.
Candidate Statements should be approximately 500 words and include any information you imagine would be compelling to our membership in electing you to a seat on the OBTC Board. These statements will be made available to the public for consideration when the ballot is open.
All candidates who are eligible and submit their candidate statements before the deadline will be presented to the membership of the Ocean Beach Town Council for election to the 2020-2022 term.
You will have the opportunity to share in person with OBTC membership at our Public Meeting on January 22, 2020 at 7PM at the Masonic Lodge on Sunset Cliffs. You may bring and read your candidate statement, or you may share extemporaneously.
Eligible candidates for the OBTC Board of Directors must be over (18) years of age, already be a paid-in- full OBTC member, and either live, work, own property, or operate a business in Ocean Beach (92107).
Voting for this election will take place from Monday, January 27th to Friday, February 7th .
