Is Apogee moving into former Lola Luna?
Last month we reported that the former Lola Luna was being remodeled for Apogee’s jewelry customers. But now it appears that the entire Apogee storefront will be moving into that space across the street.
There’s a “For Lease 750 square feet” notice taped to the front of Apogee’s window – much like the one taped to the Electric Chair window.
Luis told this reporter that Apogee was moving in. He said he’s the manager. The owner declined to confirm or deny.

OB’s Latest Mexican Restaurant Still in ‘Construction’ Phase
The new Mexican-style restaurant to open in the former Nati’s is still in the construction phase. But progress has definitely been made. In July 2019 we reported:
The restaurant group, Social Syndicate, has just announced they are opening a Mexican restaurant – called La Doña – in the prime corner lot at Bacon and Niagara. Social Syndicate runs OB Surf Lodge and Wonderland Ocean Pub, and are partners with the brothers who opened Blue Water Seafood in their OB enterprise.

Small Businesses to Stay
There’s a couple small businesses on the property where the new restaurant is going in, and they’re apparently still open, including Seams to Me.
Former Martial Arts Space on Voltaire Still Vacant
The space above Plant Power over on Voltaire, the former martial arts academy, is still vacant and still for lease.
Pepe’s Italian Still Evicted
Pepe’s on Sunset Cliffs Blvd is still closed and locked up tight. There’s an eviction notice taped to the front door.
There was some more sadness when this reporter looked down and saw “Pepe 1997” scrawled in some concrete near the front door.
New Thai Place Applies for Beer and Wine License
As we have reported, a new Thai restaurant – Soi OB- is moving into the former fast-food franchise that was located in the space at 1916 Cable.

A new massage therapy center has opened in the new OB Plaza, Swanky Sugar.
Did you know OB has a thrift store?
OB does have a thrift store, the Humble Heart Thrift, in the arcade on Newport Avenue. Upstairs where the Ol Ocean Beach Cafe served good fare years ago.
