The OB Subway shop on Cable Street is indeed closed. In fact the former owner, Maziar Boushehry, wrote a good-bye of sorts on social media, re-posted below. What is coming in to take its place?

Our intrepid reporter walked into the location and saw 4 people reading blueprints. They told him a Thai restaurant was coming in – and they hope to open in February 2020.  The owner of the new Thai eatery owns another shop in North Park, called Soi 30th.

It was in early Spring of 2018, when one of our reporters tracked down a rumor that Subway was closing. And the owner assured us he was going to be open “a long time.”

From Subway’s previous owner

Hello all

Today was very sad day for me, unfortunately I had to close my subway shop?

Just wanted to take a moment to thank OB community for all the support for the last 8 years of me being owner of the OB Subway and happy to announce the new mom and pop Thai food restaurant is going to be opening by my great friend Rick.
It’s going to be his second location, the first one is in north park and it’s called soi 30th.

…Again thank you for all the kindness and support over the years :)

I will miss Subway a lot and I predict the Thai Resturant will only last for 2 months when the open. First they have two high prices so you can afford them. To the building is really tiny so they will not be able to have lots of customers.

I had the chance to try soi30th yesterday for lunch. Lots of energy in the staff, my Tom Yam soup was really, really good, and they are doing a lot with a small space. They seem to be doing well (at 30th and Upas, a notoriously rich corner for dining) with a LOT of take out orders being handled while I was there.
OB could do worse.

Did we really need a corporate sandwich shop when there are so many other lovely sandwich shops in OB?
Good riddance.
