October 10th Thursday 7 pm.  Film Night “The Human Element” People are finally waking up to the climate crisis as our young people take to the streets.  We are showing  yet another intense film about the crisis but with hope at the end.  In this 2019 documentary from the producers of Racing Extinction, The Cove and Chasing Ice, environmental photographer James Balog captures the lives of everyday American on the front lines of climate change.

During his four-decade career as a photographer and explorer, James Balog has focused his lens on the complex relationship between humans and nature. Human activity has now surpassed all other forces shaping our world. Balog’s work has challenged us to contemplate our place in, and responsibility to, the natural world. Balog argues that humans are part of the whole system of nature and not apart from it. Knowing this, he finds great hope that the fifth element, the human element, can bring the whole system back into balance. Free of charge

Those who attempt suicide without a gun have a good chance of surviving but those who reach for a gun rarely have a second chance. Gideon Levy: The Zionist Tango: Step Left, Step Right (53 min. video), recorded in 2018, on the eve of the Levy writes opinion pieces and a weekly column for the newspaper Haaretz that often focus on the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories while telling his readers the truth about what goes on in the Occupied Territories. He is widely considered the “dean” of Israeli journalism—as well as “the most hated man in Israel.”

Levy has won prizes for his articles on human rights in the Israeli-occupied territories. As Levy has written, “Treating the Palestinians as victims and the crimes perpetrated against them as crimes is considered treasonous.” Levy also says that across the mainstream Israeli political spectrum, there is no challenge to the occupation of Palestinian land.
