The public is being asked for help in identifying the arson suspect who is alleged to have started up to six fires in the Ocean Beach and Point Loma neighborhoods back in late September.
San Diego Crime Stoppers have now released new photos and video of the suspect, who appears to be a white, young and thin male.
Investigators with the Metro Arson Strike Team report that during the early hours of Sept. 28, between 12:30 a.m. and 5:03 a.m., six separate fires were started in the backyards of homes, at the following locations:
- 12:30 a.m. – 4500 Muir Avenue
- 1:12 a.m. – 2100 Froude Street
- 2:22 a.m. – 4300 Piedmont Drive
- 2:50 p.m. – 4117 Catalina Place
- 4:04 a.m. – 4300 Monaco Street
- 5:03 a.m. – 3900 La Cresta Drive
In addition, a white, compact SUV similar to a Toyota RAV4 was seen in the 4100 block of Catalina Place just before a fire was discovered at that location.
Video and photos show a person in a hooded sweatshirt, shorts, and sandals walking in the yard of a home where one fire ignited. The person can be seen with a sheet of paper in the right hand and a cigarette in the other. Then they disappear off the video frame but reappear still smoking a cigarette.
