Who Remembers This? Last August Ocean Water Temperatures Set Record Highs

Do you remember last August? So long ago, but last August 2018 saw the ocean water temperatures reach record highs.

On August 1, 2018, Scripps Pier recorded the highest ocean surface water temperature in its 102 history of taking measurements.

The water temperature was 78.6 degrees. Usually it’s around 68 that time of year.

That was on a Wednesday. By Friday it was 78.8 degrees. Another record. Then that Sunday, August 6 , Scripps measured a new high: 79.4 degrees.

Scientists at Scripps have been taking daily measurements at the pier since 1916.

This platform is not available for climate-crisis deniers. Someone just commented that since the water temp this year on Aug. 1 was much lower, that proves the planet is not getting warmer. Sorry HM – find the new GOP website and talk to them.

And it is rapidly getting worse in every category of catastrophic climate destabilization one reads into. Far beyond anything remotely expected by the mainstream scientists though not some of those so-called ‘alarmist’ science people who seem to have somehow been far closer to reality.

Up here by the Canadian Border we have officially been jumped one full ‘growing zone’ and are now being told there are fruit trees that have never been able to grow here (since before the last Ice Age!) we can now plant with a reasonable expectation of their surviving the winters. Of course that doesn’t say much about surviving the increasingly brutal summers and fires in these mountains…

And thank you for re-directing anti-science Bronze Age thinkers elsewhere. Don’t want to read Heartland Institute or Heritage Foundation/fossil fuel-funded extremist Koch brothers propaganda groups on the Rag. They are so annoyingly, ummm, what would be a good descriptive word here? So many to choose from that fit and not are flattering in the least.
