There’s now been nearly three dozen attacks BB gun attacks over the last month in San Diego County – including one in Ocean Beach and one in the Midway District. Plus one target was the second storefront of a well-known OB business.

The BB gun attacks appear to be intentional and have targeted pedestrians, drivers, businesses and homes. Police are trying to figure out if they’re all related.  Or maybe shooting BB guns at people and property is just a trend.

NBC7 reported on the Midway District shooting:

In the Midway District, an occupied Lyft car and several businesses were shot at on July 6, according to police. The shootings occurred at around 11 p.m., and police said there were no injuries.

A Lyft driver was chauffeuring two people when the BB pellets struck the car near Nimitz and Sunset Cliffs boulevards, officers said.

The windows at a Chili’s Grill & Bar, located on Sports Arena Boulevard located on Pacific Highway were shot out. Also the Lazy Hummingbird Coffee and Acai on El Cajon Blvd – a spin-off of the original famous OB place with the same name – was also hit by BB pellets.

In one incident in Downtown, the shooting suspect was reportedly seen inside a white sedan and said to be shooting from the back seat.

Here are some of the attacks and vandalism incidents:

  • Hillcrest: a café, a print shop, and a scooter store each had their windows shot out by apparent BB pellets at the start of July;
  • College Area: a driver and four businesses were attacked by a BB gun on July 7;
  • Downtown: BB gun shootings on July 21 injured two pedestrians and broke car windows;
  • Paradise Hills: seven vehicles had their windows shot out by BB pellets along Reo Terrace on July 21; residents said only one side of the street had damaged cars;
  • National City:, a Ria Money Transfer building, four vehicles, and one home were targets of BB gun attacks, between July 20 and 21;
  • Coronado: police reported 22 incidents on July 21 – a business and 22 vehicles were struck within a one-hour timespan; Coronado police released a surveillance image of the car believed to be involved.

In one incident over the Memorial Day Weekend, a married couple had been out drinking in Hillcrest; they ordered a Lyft ride as the husband was very intoxicated; he ended up vomiting in the Lyft car and getting in a tussle with the driver who was driving erratically. They got out of the first car – ordered a second, but when they got home “they found a pellet-sized hole in their living room window. The couple says their security cameras caught a driver in a vehicle that matched their first driver’s car pull up to their home, raise a pellet gun, and fire,” according to NBC7SanDiego.

Here’s NBC’s List:

Another BB attack victim has come forward; a man was hit in his head with a BB in downtown SD and told the media: ““I see three guys in one car, a white Cadillac because the emblem behind the car is colored red. It’s a Cadillac,” he said.’ https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/BB-Gun-Victim-Shot-in-the-Head-Downtown-San-Diego-513160311.html
