Why Should It Be Considered a Risk Trying to Get Rid of Trump?

There’s so much talk about the risks that would be involved in trying to impeach the president.

And I’m thinking: Risks? What risks?

A literary hero of mine, Erica Jong, once said: “If you don’t risk anything, you risk everything” and to me it’s a bigger risk not trying to give El Numero 45 a pink slip than allowing him to sink the ship that is America.

And I don’t care how we get rid of this fool. It doesn’t have to be through impeachment. A citizen’s arrest would be cool, with that little pushing down on the head that cops do when putting a thug in the backseat of a squad car. I’d volunteer for that job with a whole lot of pomp and ado.

There must be a bounty hunter out there somewhere with nothing to do. We couldn’t go wrong with a writ of insanity of some kind could we? Anybody up for organizing a “327 Million People March for Humanity?”…

Hey, I jest to keep from weeping, as this horrible creature keeps sucking the air out of the universe.

That he is where he is today has always tripped me out because I’ve known people like him from way back in my life.

Dudes on my elementary and junior high playground.

Those clowns, like Trump, would wobble around, talking, as we used to say, “more shit than a radio,” putting people down with the sounds of what we called the “dozens,” all kinds of “Yo Mama” rhymes and always double daring somebody to “cross this line.”

And we couldn’t wait to cross that line to get to his behind.

And as to, say, school politics, these jive-talking pre-adolescents wouldn’t have gotten a single vote for an office like school president or for “home room representative” or “flag monitor” even.

We didn’t suffer fools.

But grownups in the early 21st Century voted a man, who personifies the playground assholes of my youth to a T, into the highest office in the land.

And all he’s done since his presidency began is steadily tear the country down, bound by no rules or laws whatsoever, getting away with things any one else of us would be hauled off to jail for.

And now it’s considered a risk to get rid of him? When the very soul of our country is being put at risk by him?

And when I say soul I’m speaking of our so called American values; the pursuit of equality in a spirit of “liberty and justice for all” we claim to be about; the compassion we supposedly have inside of us voiced in sentimentalities like “give me your tired, your poor.”

Well, we’ve never, collectively, truly pursued such moral standards and what strides we have made are simply being gangsta slapped away under this president.

And, sad to say, as to sending this man on his unmerry old way, it might have to come down to us, “We the People,” to seal the deal and save the day in 2020.

And if it comes down to that we should call on our better selves with every ounce of love we can summon for each other and for our country to defeat him nothing short of resoundingly and I refer to love as a key in our efforts based on something else I remember Ms. Jong saying: “Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for.”

She, of course, was referring to romantic relationships but the words speak to all our human endeavors.

We can’t risk going on as a nation without love being at the heart of how we go about it.

I mean, how else, other than through appreciating and caring about each other, can human beings down the line value their freedom to be decent more than their right to bear arms?

How else can they create schools that are relevant to their lives?

How else can they ever value the richness in their diversity and come to let notions of white supremacy die a slow death as the skin colors of humanity gradually darken?

And to get down to the real nitty-gritty, to real threats against humanity, itself, how else can they value their physical and mental well-being enough to provide healthcare for all so they can have the strength and willpower to deal with holding off the extinction of their species as the ice melts and the seas rise and the winds blow and swirl more and more violently and the fires in the dryness roar more and more out of control?

If they get along no better than we’ve gotten along, so far, they’re not likely to survive.

With everything to gain and nothing to lose we can’t risk not contributing to helping future generations create a better world.

And getting rid of a wretched president would be a nice beginning for such a mission.
