Here is the letter to Mayor Faulconer from the Ocean Beach Town Council Board of Directors expressing support for Non Toxic San Diego and its efforts to change the city’s pesticide and herbicide use.
The letter, with the signature of Mark Winkie, the President of the OBTC, was in response to Non Toxic SD’s presentation and request for support at the most recent OBTC public meeting on May 22 about RoundUp. The Board then held its internal monthly meeting on June 12 and took a supportive stance. Winkie’s letter is also addressed to the City Council. City Attorney, and County Supervisor.
At the end, Mark has some nice words about San Diego with a caveat that hopefully appeals to Mayor Faulconer.

At our June 12th meeting, the Ocean Beach Town Council Board of Directors voted to support Non Toxic San Diego’s initiative to require the City of San Diego to follow best practices for the proper application of approved pesticides and herbicides which is currently not being followed.
We also support NTSD’s call to adapt an Integrative Pest Management Policy (IPM) similar to Irvine California’s IPM which places organic methods as a priority with the goal of eliminating the use of herbicides and toxic chemicals in our city.
San Diego has an abundance of natural beauty where people from around the world come to enjoy, we take pride in our beautiful outdoor spaces, parks and beaches. Let’s be a leader in protecting them from these toxic chemicals.

Right on! So happy to see our community supporting Campaign Non Toxic San Diego in District 2. Remember to send your emails to Dr. Jen Campbell, our elected official and the rest of the city to adapt an organic integrated pest management policy.

We are asking you to require the contractor(s) at parks to abide by the law as provided by the federal government and not permit the public in the areas that are being treated/sprayed.
We are asking you require that contractor(s) at city parks provide an “Intent of Use” sign to be posted 3 days prior to spraying in parks to provide the community the choice of avoiding the area, or not.
