The OB Rag is trying to piece together just what went down this morning in the Niagara – Bacon area of Ocean Beach.
But tragically, a woman was found dead in a garage on the 5000 block of Niagara. A son of the property’s owner who forced himself into the residence and found the dead women witnessed his brother running from the residence.
That man, identified as 36-year-old Daniel Chase McKibben is now being sought by police as a suspect in the woman’s death. after he was seen running from the residence.
It all began around 1am Wednesday morning when the son of the woman who owns the property called police for a welfare check on his mother. He had received a phone call from her Tuesday night but when he tried to recontact her.
Upon their arrival at the Niagara residence, police were unable to get inside the home to determine if the mother was there. The son who had made the call arrived at the residence a few hours later, forced himself into a unit of the multi-unit complex and discovered a dead woman in the garage covered.
As of this writing it’s not known whether the woman found is the mother, the owner of the property.
Just before the son found the covered woman, he saw his brother run from the scene. He was wearing a tan shirt, black shorts and a backpack. McKibben has long brown hair and brown eyes.
Around 4a.m. the SWAT team arrived at the multi-unit property near the intersection of Niagara Avenue and Bacon.
The SWAT team then went to another home on Del Mar Avenue near the intersection of Cable Street and Del Mar Avenue where McKibben was believed to be holed up. But after 3 hours, no one had emerged from the building and SWAT officers were called off.
Evacuations of a number of residences in the multi-unit complex were made as the SWAT team surrounded the property.
Neither the sons’ mother nor the sons lived at the residence on Niagara Avenue.
The police activity closed several streets near popular restaurants that were closed at the time, including the OB Noodle House and Raglan Public House.

I’ve looked for updates to this tragic story but found none. The woman found is believed to be the mother.
KNSD reports that La Mesa officers shot and wounded him after he threatened them with a knife.
