9 Prosecutors From San Diego Sign Letter

A bipartisan group called Protect Democracy has organized a letter that is now signed by nearly 800 former federal prosecutors, prosecutors who have served in both Republican and/ or Democratic administrations, which states the Mueller Report findings would produced obstruction charges against President Trump — if he wasn’t currently President.

Here’s the full statement.

The Mueller report describes several acts that satisfy all of the elements for an obstruction charge: conduct that obstructed or attempted to obstruct the truth-finding process, as to which the evidence of corrupt intent and connection to pending proceedings is overwhelming. These include:

· The President’s efforts to fire [special counsel Robert S.] Mueller and to falsify evidence about that effort;

· The President’s efforts to limit the scope of Mueller’s investigation to exclude his conduct; and

· The President’s efforts to prevent witnesses from cooperating with investigators probing him and his campaign.

Nobody is supposed to be above the law, but that’s not the case in 2019. The evidence was so strong that nearly 800 Department of Justice alumni, all former federal prosecutors from both Republican and Democratic administrations, say that the Mueller report showed Trump’s actions to be “overwhelming” evidence of corrupt intent. That is double the number of ex-prosecutors who signed the statement yesterday.

And 9 former prosecutors in the San Diego-based U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California signed the letter, according to Times of San Diego.

And they are:

  • Robert Rose, who spent 12 years working under Presidents Ford through Reagan,
  • Stephen Anear, who served for seven years during the George W. Bush and Clinton administrations.
  • Alberto Arevalo, 14 years under Bush I, Clinton and Bush II.
  • Raymond J. “Jerry” Coughlan Jr., 10 years under Nixon, Reagan, Ford and Carter.
  • Thomas “Tom” Coffin, 21 years under Reagan, Nixon, George H.W. Bush, Ford and Carter.
  • George Hardy, 34 years under Reagan, Clinton, Carter, Obama and both Bushes.
  • Gay Hugo-Martinez, 16 years under Carter, Reagan, Bush I and Clinton.
  • Pamela “Pam” Naughton, eight years under Carter and Reagan.
  • and Robert Semmer, 11 years under Nixon, Ford and Carter.

yep, and an opening statement in Senate hearings yesterday was made (that can be viewed/heard on C-Span) about that letter, even tho the hearings were about confirmation of bank folks. And what’s laughable, if it wasn’t so frightening, is that we now have “executive privilege” “obstructing” an “obstruction of justice” investigation. Obstruction of an obstruction…Whaaat?! My sister is a retired DOJ prosecutor, and she concurs the evidence is ‘bankable”. The fly in the ointment is the OLC law, but even that seems debatable among the legal gurus…
