Five years ago this month, in May 2014, CVS Pharmacy has begun the work of rehabbing the former Apple Tree Market in OB.

This reporter visited the site on Thursday, May 22nd, 2914 and witnessed plenty of activity that dispelled that nothing was happening in the old market that has sat there empty for months.  An on-site contractor also confirmed that CVS is really beginning the process of moving in. Here’s part of that report:

Workers inside were finalizing the dusty and dirty job of gutting the interior of the Fifties-style cavernous building – once the site of a Safeway. The wood will be saved I was told – and I could see wonderful reddened wood composing the ceiling beams.

OB cvs 5-22-14 loadocThe plans are to do a complete remodel of the interior. It would be easy speculation to say that the remodel will look very similar to other CVS Pharmacies.

CVS also has plans to redo the rooftop. The old loading dock has already been demolished with the idea of replacing it with a smaller one. The interior freight elevator will also be replaced, I was told.

And of course the front of the building will be repainted.

They did a nice job preserving the basics of the interior and keeping the murals, and the new Apple Tree is nicer than the old one.

I choose to not shop at CVS. As a veteran I am able to shop The Exchange on line for household/personal care stuff not available from local independent businesses. It’s free shipping, tax free, and all profits go to support quality of life programs for current service members and their families. I’ve been wondering if that friggin’ new Target Store will incorporate a CVS Pharmacy in their new location since they are present in most full size Targets.
