More than 500 San Diegans rallied last night, Thursday, November 8 at the downtown Federal Court House to show support for the Mueller investigation.

The San Diego protest was one of over a thousand held across the country in response to Trump’s firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the appointment of a Trump crony and critic of the investigation to oversee it as the “acting” attorney general.

Hosted by a rapid-response network and called for in less than 24 hours, the rallies demonstrated a sharp rebuke to the president’s efforts to undermine the investigation into a conspiracy between the Russian government and the Trump campaign / White House into sabotaging the 2016 presidential elections.

In San Diego, the energized crowd listened to a number of speakers – including Congresswoman Susan Davis, who was just re-elected, and newly-elected Congressman Mike Levin. Both received enthusiastic responses to their public denunciations of Trump’s maneuvering.

This reporter joined San Diego Free Press editors Rich Kacmar and Doug Porter at the event. I estimated more than 500 people attending and Doug Porter came up with the same estimate independently.

As Doug says, “The message in San Diego and everywhere else was the same: Nobody Is Above the Law.” Doug quotes from Common Dreams:

Photos and videos flooded social media platformslike Twitter and Instagram all night long as people celebrated the energy and size of the turnouts in large cities like New York, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco as well as scores of smaller ones like Madison, Raleigh, Plymouth, Omaha, Orlando, Doylestown, Alexandria, Bellingham, and countless others.

“If you have any doubt about the resiliency of our democracy – especially in the wake of a bruising election – then go type in #ProtectMueller on Twitter and you will be heartened and inspired by the pictures and videos of protests across the country,” said Common Cause President Karen Hobert Flynn.

Izzy Bronstein, Flynn’s colleague at Common Cause, said “These protests were pulled together by sheer determination on the day after Election Day. People came about because no matter how tired we are, we will always put our country first. The efforts of these activists are amazing and inspiring. Tonight, they made it very clear that they do not intend to stop until our democracy is no longer under siege.”

Isn’t this two years and $35M worth of taxpayers money overdue?
