The Magic ‘CannaBus’ Changes Its Weekend Schedule

It’s been six months since the OB Rag first published an article about the CannaBus shuttle service to urbn leaf dispensary in Bay Park.

Monday through Friday the bus still departs from the foot of Newport near the pier parking lot but weekend service to and from Ocean Beach has been cancelled.

On Saturdays and Sundays, the shuttle now services Pacific Beach, departing from the foot of Grand Avenue near the Firehouse and Ale House restaurants.

Both the OB and PB buses leave approximately on the hour between noon and 8 PM.

I’ve continued to ride the bus about once a month since its inception. It makes for a fun field trip with out of town visitors and locals who have never been to a dispensary.

According to Lilli, a “flight attendant” on the bus, passengers continue to be a mix of locals and tourists. Lilli has seen a variety of clients on the bus and says she has enjoyed educating many first timers about the benefits of both recreational and medicinal herb.

After a rough month in July when most local dispensaries ran extremely low on “product” due to law changes that kicked in on July 1, local dispensaries seem to have ramped up their selections again as ganja producers and distributors have caught up with the new regulations.

Prices at the official dispensaries remain high compared to what is available from unlicensed delivery services and dispensaries that are not approved by the City or other local jurisdictions. These high prices are no doubt due in part to the testing, packaging, and other regulations mandated by State law as well as to the artificial monopoly created by the City in limiting the number of official dispensaries.

Joaquin, gracias for keeping us up to date. I was wondering if the bus was still on its old schedule as I didn’t see it as often in OB on the weekends.

Had a visitor who wanted to take the bus on a lark. It never showed up. No webpage to check a schedule, no number to call.
