During the early-morning hours of August 6, two men were seen arguing on the sidewalk near the Ocean Beach Pier. It was 1:30 a.m. At one point, one of them grabbed an aluminum beach chair and threw at the other guy. That force knocked him backwards – and he fell on the concrete and fractured his skull.
Apparently the assailant and his two companions took off. But there were witnesses.
Police found the victim unconscious and bleeding from his head – but breathing. He was quickly taken to a local hospital and treated for the fracture.
Now the assailant and his companions are being sought by police. Witnesses described him as 5 feet, 2-4 inches tall, white with a stocky build. His two companions are described as a dread-locked 5-foot-9-inch white man, wearing a black coat, and a light-haired white woman of average height.

They left a guy bleeding on the ground from a fractured skull at 1:30. That’s pretty close to an attempted murder. We can’t get a sketch, estimated ages, or hair length? What happened to those beach cameras? Even if the act isn’t on video, the suspects walking by the camera right afterwards or possibly before should be there somewhere.
I am amazed at how “safe” San Diego is because the Police Department is woefully under-prepared and qualified. I am sure they will classify this as a “drunken disturbance” not a “battery” to make their stats seem better.
Frank, I emailed you video of this the night it happened as I witnessed it. Tried to give you the jump here – and the fox and SDUT articles aren’t entirely accurate, but … ?????

What about Lorie Zapf’s surveillance cameras down there? What kind of evidence has been gleaned from the video?
EXCELLENT question, Vern.
Lorie Zapf: “if you come to Ocean Beach and commit a crime on our public beaches, you will be on camera, and you will get caught.”
