The Answer to Treason Is a Mass Movement for Impeachment

It’s time for straight talk. The American nation had a moment of Epiphany during Trump’s Helsinki press conference a week ago while he stood next to a smirking Russian dictator. Our president’s collusion with Putin and the Kremlin government was open for all to see.

Let’s not mince words. Trump and Putin had a 2-hour secret meeting and made some kind of agreements and then Trump openly supported the Kremlin version of things and denied the analysis of Russian intervention and credibility of the US national security networks.

This is treasonous.

And the answer to this treason is impeachment. But the only why we’re going to have Trump impeached is with a mass movement for his impeachment.

None dare call it treason? No. This is obviously not just the OB Rag calling it treason. It’s the former CIA Director John Brennan who stated after Helsinki:

“Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of ‘high crimes & misdemeanors.’ It was nothing short of treasonous.”

In an editorial at the Washington Post, the editors stated:

 “In Helsinki, Mr. Trump again insisted ‘there was not collusion’ with Russia. Yet in refusing to acknowledge the plan facts about Russia’s behavior, while trashing his own country’s justice system, Mr. Trump in fact was openly colluding with the criminal leader of a hostile power.”

Others … columnist Tom Friedman, not close to a flaming liberal, wrote :

“there is overwhelming evidence that our president, for the first time in history… engaged in treasonous behavior – behavior that violates his oath of office to ‘preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.’”

Arch-conservative George Will wrote after Helsinki, the world witnessed:

“ongoing collusion between Trump, now in power, and Russia.”

Many other Americans were disgusted after watching Trump commit impeachable offenses while standing on the world stage. All of a sudden, the “I-word” is back in play, “impeachment”.

As one pundit observed:

After Helsinki, it is now uncontestable that Trump has failed to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, or indeed, the United States and its electoral system itself. To reiterate The Washington Post’s editorial, in Helsinki, “Trump in fact was openly colluding with the criminal leader of a hostile power.”

America must act. The House Judiciary Committee must exercise its duty and role and initiate impeachment proceedings, but that’s not going to happen until the House Judiciary committee undergoes a leadership change. The only way that’s going to happen is if the Democratic Party retakes the House of Representatives.

The mass movement to remove Trump must be in concert with electoral efforts to change Congress in 3 plus months – and it must be independent of any political party.

It must be a movement of Democrats, independents, and even Republicans and anarchists and Greens.

It must be a movement that puts enormous pressure on the current (and future) Democratic Congressional leaders – for they’re not on board with impeachment. Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi recently said so in a interview in Rolling Stone :

“[Pelosi] is tamping down talk of impeachment. ‘From what we know, it’s off the table,’ Pelosi says, calling buzz about removing Trump a ‘gift for the Republicans.’ “

Over in the Senate, Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer’s sinks to his knees and asks his Republican colleagues to enact a very mild list of responses to the Russian interference.

These people need to wake up, to be shaken up – by this mass movement. A mass movement will also encourage independents and those outside the election process to take a stand against a Trump America.

Over a year ago in a Public Policy Poll, nearly half of all Americans said they supported impeachment, (48%) whereas 41% said they were opposed. This was over a year ago. Before Helsinki, before Charlottesville even. A recent Maris Poll showed 70% of Democrats would definitely vote for a candidate who supported impeachment. Of course, the vast majority of Republicans don’t support it – it’s his party now, and 88% think he’s doing a hell-of-a-job. Yet, that’s a small fraction of Americans.

Everyday now, as Trump continues to walk-back the walk-back, as more and more Trump enemies are threatened (now it’s critical security chiefs, the other day it was news stations and reporters), we can see the veil being lifted from the authoritarian regime that has benefited from the Russian attack in 2016 and the continuing Russian sabotage of our so-call liberal democratic election system.

It’s going to take average Americans, average patriots to resist the Trump oligarchy and it’s going to take a million efforts of resistance each day until the White House is emptied of these alien creatures – many of whom want to see a white nation. In response, we must join up with others who respect the Constitution – as flawed as it is –  and rule of law – and give them the biggest pushback in history. We are the “Constitutionalists”.
