Thanks to Daniel Powell’s regular column at the San Diego Reader, we have some details of the falls that occurred at No Surf beach and cliffs on the same day earlier this month.

Yeah, unbelievable. Two people fell at No Surf on July 1.

As Powell recounts, a 29 year old woman fell from the cliffs at 3:51 pm – and then less than 6 hours later at 8:14 pm a 20 year old guy fell off the cliffs.

The woman fell an estimated 25 feet and was transported by helicopter to UCSD Medical Center and the man fell an approximate 30 to 40 feet, and was also helicoptered to UCSD.

Here’s Powells words on these 2 incidents on the same day:

15:51 Cliff/Medical: Lifeguard, emergency, medical and helicopter units respond to No Surf Beach for a 29 year-old female who fell from the cliff 25 feet. Helicopter transports to UCSD.

20:14 Cliff/Medical: Lifeguard, fire, medical and helicopter units respond to a 20 year-old male who fell off the cliff at No Surf Beach, approximately 30-40 feet. Patient transported by Copter 1 to UCSD.

These cliffs are beautiful and dangerous. According to our study over a period of 12 years, 2005 through 2017, there are an average of 5 deaths or serious injuries a year at the cliffs.
