An estimated 4,000 San Diegans rallied at the County Administration Building / Waterfront Park, listened to music and speakers, then marched down Harbor Drive and back around on Pacific Highway to a second rally. All to keep families together and in protest of Trump’s immigration policies, separating immigrant children from their families, prosecuting those children without a parent or guardian in federal court and mass detention.
The demonstration was one of 750 protests scheduled around the country to directly counter Trump’s un-American immigration policy of separating children from parents at the border.
In San Diego County, there was also a large protest in El Cajon and one in Ramona.

In Carlsbad, organizers canceled the event early on June 30 as the City of Carlsbad had not delivered permits to the groups. However, the Carlsbad Police Department and organizers negotiated a way in which the protesters could hold their rally and stay within the limits of the law, according to CPD Cpt. Pete Pascual.
Reports are coming in of millions of people across the U.S. marching and protesting today …
Note on crowd numbers: the number of an estimated 4,000 participants in the downtown San Diego event was arrived at via a quasi-scientific method this reporter has utilized for marches in San Diego over this past year. Standing on a corner where the beginning of the march went by, I literally count how many marchers go past within one minute (200), and then compensating for thinner or thicker or sparse sections of the entire march, that’s multiplied with the number of minutes it took the march to past the point where I stood – 22 minutes.
