A mermaid has appeared on top of what some locals call “the Rock”, or “Bird-Shit Rock” or “Ross Rock”.
As the art installations that have appeared on the same rock over the years have been, this was done anonymously.
A few years ago, it was an illuminated Peace Sign – until it was damaged and stolen by vandals; its replacement now sits atop of the OB hostel building.
Before the Peace Sign, there was other art forms, a yellow Pterodactyl, the dinosaur bird, and a large replica of one of the stone heads of Easter Island.
For images of those pieces, see 10News here.

Back in the day, a Christmas tree appeared during the Holidays every year. I’m all for public art – but when it gets nasty looking / weathered / etc. the anonymous person who places it, should make sure it comes down.
Her name is Marina. She’ll be there for a while until she’s ready to join her friends in the sea. One day she will disappear as mysterious as she appeared.

Great way to bring more kooks to the cliffs/the arch
LOVE IT!!!!
This has made national news along with this: “A member of the Sunset Cliffs Advisory Council said it qualifies as graffiti.” Who is that unnamed member, eh?
That reminds me of the Coronado residents saying bike lanes induced a dizzying vertigo.
Love the art!
