Morality Guide

Check out this week’s Progressive Calendar listings below. Following those listings are upcoming events of national importance, along with opportunities for organizational involvement.

Get your event listed: I try to list the next 10 days or so of mostly non-commercial events I think our readers might find of interest. I source my material from social media listings and press releases. Club meetings will be listed IF there are speakers and they are open to the public.

Democratic Candidates: I will list all non-fundraising events open to the general public. A listing does not imply endorsement. Events that are listed on Facebook as ‘private’ or sold-out are not listed. In cases where there are competing but similar events or campaigns of the progressive persuasion, I do my best to list everything.

International call to action in support of The Great Return March!

We are calling our community and allies to take action and launch demonstrations in support of the Great Return March on April 14th, just as the righteous resisters in Gaza have declared. The time has come for our youth wherever they may be to raise their voices in support of the rightful struggle of our people in Gaza, and for our youth in diaspora to proclaim we will never surrender the right of return. Now more than ever when we seem the most divided, we must come together in collectively asserting our right to return and our dream of the total liberation of our people and homeland. There will be no solution without the total end of the Zionist colonization of Palestine–return is our right, and demand: we will return! Palestine will be free!

Please bring your sign about why YOU oppose the TrumpTax. The TrumpTax is the GOP tax legislation that has, and will, raise taxes on millions of families, has destabilized ACA marketplaces, and is a massive give away to corporations and the very wealthy.

This is a rally and demonstration, we aren’t marching; so come even if you aren’t ready or able to march!

It’s been almost one year since thousands of Americans came together on Tax Day 2017 to demand Donald Trump’s tax returns and a fairer tax system for all. In that time, however, Trump and Republicans have turned their backs on hard-working Americans only to help the wealthy and well-connected.

The choice in this case is between a career prosecutor (who declined to appear) and a career public defender. If you care about how crime (or non-crime) is punished, you care about this race in this election.

Investigate Jerry Cano’s Abuse of Power

Tuesday, April 17, 6pm
National City Hall
1243 National City Boulevard
For More Information

Jerry Cano has used his power as an elected member of National City Council to shield himself from paying fines associated with code violations at his house. Jerry had illegally constructed a backyard patio, kitchen, etc. without pulling any permits and without any code inspection. While all residents are held accountable for code violations with fines, red tag and even direction to tear down their houses. Jerry was treated differently and hasn’t paid any fines since 2013. Additionally the code violations are still outstanding and nothing has been done to make Jerry address his code violations. Jerry shouldn’t get special treatment! If I had paid a fine, I would want a refund. This is a clear case of Abuse of Power.

April Club Meeting featuring ReWild Mission Bay

Wednesday, April 18, 6pm
Elijah’s Restaurant
7061 Clairmont Mesa Boulevard
For More Information
Hosted by San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action

Our featured speaker will be Rebecca Schwartz Lesberg, Project Manager of San Diego Audubon‘s ReWild Mission Bay. “After years of governmental inaction, and following a collaboration between Audubon California and San Diego Audubon to develop a Conservation Plan for Mission Bay in 2011, San Diego Audubon launched the “ReWild Mission Bay” campaign in 2014. The goal of ReWild Mission Bay is to restore up to 200 acres of healthy, resilient wetlands in northeast Mission Bay so wildlife and communities can thrive.” With Mayor Faulconer’s office and the Mission Bay Park Committee signaling an inclination toward monetizing a large portion of the project footprint, there is a pressing need to inform ourselves and our communities about the social and ecological importance of the ReWild Project and to prepare ourselves to fight for our threatened public lands.

We will be considering endorsements in the San Diego County District 5 Supervisorial and Superior Court races. We will also vote on consent for the friendly incumbent endorsement of Michael McQuary for re-election to District C of the San Diego Unified School District’s Board of Education. We will close with a discussion of our Club’s participation in San Diego’s Earth Fair 2018 on April 22nd at Balboa Park, where we will host our endorsed candidates, elected officials, and other environmental leaders at our booth on Prado-East.
