Point Loma’s Planning Committees Have Elections Coming Up: Peninsula on Mar.15 and Midway on Mar.21

Point Loma’s other local community planning committees – other than Ocean Beach – have their annual elections coming up in March.

The Peninsula Community Planning Board holds theirs on March 15th and the Midway Community Planning Group has theirs on March 21st.  (The Ocean Beach Planning Board had theirs on March 7th. )

Here are the details:

Peninsula Community Planning Board Elections

The Peninsula Community Planning Board (PCPB) will be holding elections in March 2018 to fill five (5) vacancies. Board terms are three (3) years, with exception of unexpired terms which are filled.

Requirements for those interested in becoming a Board Member:

  • Candidates must be 18 years of age.
  • Candidates must reside, own property, or operate a business within the PCPB boundaries.
  • Candidates must have attended one regular PCPB meeting within the previous 12-month term. Attending the candidates forum qualifies for this requirement.

The election will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm, at the Point Loma / Hervey Branch Library located at 3701 Voltaire Street, San Diego, CA 92107.

Proof of residence, business operation, or property ownership within the PCPB boundaries must be provided for an individual to vote. The candidates’ forum was held on March 1st.

Midway-Pacific Highway Community Planning Group Elections

MPHCPG is a citizens advisory group authorized by the City of San Diego to make recommendations on land use, development, traffic, and other issues.

Elections for several open seats on the board will be held: Wednesday, March 21, 2018, between 2:30 and 3:00 PM at the San Diego Community College-West City Campus, 3249 Fordham Street. (in the lobby area).

In order to be eligible to vote in the Planning Group election, you must either LIVE in the Midway Planning Area, OWN PROPERTY in the Midway Planning Area, OWN OR MANAGE A BUSINESS, or be the officially designated representative of a business in the Midway Planning Area.*

If you meet these qualifications, consider JOINING the Planning Group! You could
…know more about what is going on in the Midway/Pacific Highway area
…help advise the city on the needs of this community
…have a voice in future plans for the area

In addition to meeting the above qualifications, candidates wishing to serve on the Board must have attended at least one meeting prior to elections, be able to attend regularly scheduled monthly meetings (3rd Wednesdays, 3 to 5 pm), and attend a one-time city training workshop, held on a Saturday.

Planning Group member duties:

  • Attend the monthly meeting (third Wednesday, 3 to 5 pm)
  • Attend the city training workshop, held on a Saturday (or online)
  • Additional meetings may be required from time to time
  • Committee or subcommittee opportunities are also available

*The planning area boundaries are:

  • On the north: the San Diego River
  • On the east: Interstate 5
  • On the south: Barnett Avenue, Pacific Highway, and Laurel Street
  • On the west: Midway Drive (from the river to Duke Street); the bluffs behind Cabrillo Hospital
  • (from Duke Street to Rosecrans); Rosecrans (from Cauby St. to Lytton/Barnett)
