Rumors Abound that Amazon Will Buy Target

The vendors at the Antique Center on Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach slated to be a Target Express have been given over a 3 month reprieve, and now do not need to be out of the building until the end of April 2018.

Meanwhile, rumors of Amazon buying Target have thrown new hope into the mix of speculations of what will happen.

According to sources at the mall, the vendors now have until April 30 to vacate the premises. Their earlier date to get out had been January 31st – so this is certainly good news for the remaining vendors – and there are many.

Some vendors have already left – going to other large malls or even other antique stores in Ocean Beach.

The announcement of the delay brought smiles to the faces of some who oppose a Target Express moving onto Newport Avenue.

And some of the rumors that Amazon may buy Target are more than rumors – they are predictions by financial experts. Check out this prediction at Fortune on 3 reasons Amazon will take over Target this year. And for every prediction that Amazon will do this, there’s one that says they won’t. Check this piece at Forbes.

This added time will allow many of the vendors to continue their sales. Some are offering 30% off – even 50% off.

It’s a little odd to have a furniture store next to all those restaurants and bars. I’m glad OB Hardware is not an ACE Hardware and OB Noodle House isn’t a Panda Express, but I don’t see many local businesses competing with what target sells. Basically household goods like dog food and kitchen supplies.

It would be nice if they worked in a little local design like the neon CVS light. Not just a big red circle like you’re driving up the freeway.

And now there’s a mini Target slated to take over the space in North Park were Wang’s used to be (and before that, Big Lots).

That’s great.

I used to live a few blocks from there. It’s currently a sh**hole … as someone would say
