Ocean Beach Town Council Delivers Food and Toys for 150 Local Families and Seniors – Point Loma High Students Collect 25,000 Pounds of Food
Tires slashed, fires in Point Loma alleys, an arsonist, outrageous behavior, mentally-challenged people acting out, acts of vandalism … there’s plenty of negative news out of Ocean Beach and Point Loma these days.
Yet, in the midst of all this bad stuff, we have to remember all the good news.
Just last week, the OB Town Council was able to provide nearly 150 local families and seniors with groceries, a fresh holiday meal, and gifts – as part of their annual OB Food & Toy Drive.

And they just had their biggest year ever – with the help of dozens of volunteers who did the labor and with the support of a bunch of businesses who donated food to the volunteers and boxes for them to use.

Not only that, students and cadets from Point Loma High School collected more than 25,000 pounds of food for area families in need over the holidays. This was an increase of more than 50 percent over last year. They did it with the cooperation of Stump’s Market on Voltaire Street and the RalPhoto’s stores on Rosecrans Street and Sports Arena Boulevard.

Thank you so much to all those who donated, delivered, or volunteered at this year’s OB Food & Toy Drive! … Special thanks to south beach bar & grille, Raglan Public House, Hugo’s Cocina, and OB Noodle House 1502 for donating dinner for volunteers each night, and to the Ocean Beach Business Center for donating the hundreds of boxes needed for deliveries.
Point Loma High School JROTC donated thousands of pounds of food that they had spent the past several months collecting. And Susan Winkie of the OB Woman’s Club raised an amazing amount of money to purchase gifts for local teens.
There are so many people that came together to make this happen, and the OBTC is so incredibly proud and thankful to be a part of our beautiful Ocean Beach community.
