Dr. Jennifer Campbell is running to unseat Lori Zapf for the District 2 City Council seat. And although she’s fairly unknown in the beach communities of the large, spreading District that includes Ocean Beach and Point Loma, Campbell has amassed an impressive list of endorsements.

Those endorsements include many of the local Democratic Party Congressional and State representatives, most recently, Congressman Juan Vargas but the list also includes State Senator Toni Atkins, Assemblymember Todd Gloria, Nathan Fletcher – himself a candidate for County Supervisor, former State Senator Christine Kehoe, and Congressman Scott Peters.

Active in the Clairemont neighborhood of the district, Campbell, a family medicine specialist, has a nifty slogan: “She is The Doctor on Call to Fix City Hall”. Her issues start with taking action on homelessness and public safety.

Here’s a brief Campbell bio, provided in a recent press release from her campaign.

As a Family Medicine specialist for the past thirty-seven years, Dr. Campbell has taken care of people of all ages and backgrounds.

She is running for San Diego City Council’s Second District because she believes San Diego needs accountable leadership.

She has been an active member of the San Diego community since she moved from Pittsburgh more than a decade ago. Here in San Diego, she has taught Integrative Medicine at the Doctoral and Masters levels at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine.

She has advocated for her community through volunteering on civic projects, working with charities, and serving on the Board of Directors of the Clairemont Town Council and the San Diego County Democratic Party Central Committee.

Dr. Campbell lives in the Bay Ho neighborhood of Clairemont. She and her partner Suzanne have six children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Here’s a list of endorsers:

“San Diego needs accountable leadership.” bla bla bla, Sounds like every single other campaign slogan out there. And generally I consider endorsements from high up politicians as a negative.

I’m looking forward to learning about some of her more tangible priorities.
