James Gang Moving into Former Hookah Lounge
Tower Two changes
The venerable James Gang is moving – and they’re moving back to Newport Avenue into the former hookah lounge at 4851 Newport. In fact, they’re moving this weekend. “No to Target” signs are already in the windows – and coincidentally – they will be right across the street from the Antique Center – which of course Target wants to move into. When they first opened in 1976, James Gang was on Newport.
Blue Waters Seafood Moving into Tower 2
Speaking of moves, the well-known Blue Waters Seafood Bar & Grill is opening up a second establishment in Tower Two.We’ve heard that Tim and Debbie Nolan – who’ve been active within the community – will stay on as management. 
Will fresh fish finally be available to OB shoppers? Or will it only be a sit-down place?
Sunnie’s Is Back!
Having closed over a year ago, Sunnie’s – a small restaurant located at 4723 Pt. Loma Avenue – has reopened. Watch for Judi Curry’s (favorable) review.
Little Miss Space Changes
Where the Little Miss Brewery was to open, we’ve heard a mixed-martial arts, yoga and pilates will take over the space.
South Beach Bar and Grill
New Deck at South Beach Bar & Grill?
Is South Beach Bar & Grill putting in a new deck? Notices seem to say that. The popular eatery – famous for their fish tacos – has enjoyed phenomenal expansion these last few years – opening up a new room upstairs plus turning the porches into seating areas; and now a deck. (Do you know why it’s called “South Beach”? – In the old days, we didn’t call Dog Beach, Dog Beach – it was “North Beach” and the sand down at Newport was called “South Beach”.)
Breakfast Republic Opens 6th in Carmel Valley
Johan Engman recently opened up his sixth Breakfast Republic restaurant in the Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch. The OB location was number 4, and the PB place number 5.
Mother’s Saloon Removed the Stage and Brought in Flat screens
Mother’s Saloon, 2228 Bacon Street and one of a handful of venues in OB that hosts live music, recently canceled all their upcoming shows. The venue had primarily been having live bands on the weekends, but the bar decided to go a different route: they removed the stage and brought in 15 flat screens. They’re now gearing towards more of a sports bar, and Mother’s manager Alicia Falter told the SD Reader that it’s definitely working. No more live music but pumping NFL games on Sundays and college football games on Saturdays.
Buildings on Voltaire for Sale?
We’re tracking down whether these buildings on the 4900 block of Voltaire are for sale; right next to Lucy’s.
Nati’s Is NOT Closing
We did track down whether OB’s first Mexican restaurant, Nati’s, is closing – and they are not, I was politely but emphatically told by one of the managers.

Blue Water: Wow I had no idea Tower 2 is closing. Well I guess with Wonderland and it’s sister place OB Surf Lodge (which replaced Shades) right there they probably took some business away from T2. Bummer because they have awesome biscuits and gravy. Blue Water is good but it IS a chain so I’m surprised to see on going up in OB.

You are correct Chris, Blue Water is a chain but trust that it wont have a negative effect in our community. This chain is owned by 2 Point Loma/Ocean Beach natives, Judd & Matt Braun. These boys have an amazing restaurant too good not to spread around:) Cannot wait for them to set up shop!
I think there are multiple restaurants throughout the US names Bluewater Seafood. To my knowledge, this will only be a second location with the original in Mission Hills. The owners are local PLHS grads. So pretty local and little cause for an uproar. I’m sure someone has more info to share.
You know what? I was confusing it with the Bluewater Grill chain (one in Coronado). I’ve been to Bluewater Seafood market on India St. Good to know that’s what this is affiliated with. Still sad to see T2 go.

Nati’s needs to go – can’t believe anyone eats that slop.
Overly harsh on Nati’s. It’s usually filled up at lunch time and has a great patio -not to mention free parking. It’s old school, but unlike some eateries that come and go, Nati’s is still there and owned by locals.

Hmmm, “objective fact”? Are taste buds and developed pallet “objective”?
Anyhow, they have a loyal fan base – and know this kid – Nati’s was at one time the only Mexican restaurant in Point Loma, not exaggerating.
