Good thing it’s close to Halloween because otherwise OB wouldn’t put up with the crazy stuff that just keeps happening at that scary Ebers- Greene Streets project – at 2269 Ebers.
It just doesn’t stop.
The site is going to hell.
The latest – from neighbors of the project – the fence surrounding the lot is now completely gone. The fence company came by on Friday, Oct. 27th and took it down. Neighbors were told that the fence company has not been paid by Nelco, the owner-developer. The company had tried to reach the owner but to no avail.
Friday was the same day the City of San Diego was to post a Public Nuisance Notice on the property. If the fence and other company couldn’t contact the owner, the city may have trouble also.
The neighbors told us the Port-a-Potti is also gone due to lack of payment.

When mother earth is seen only as a money asset, this is the result.

Neighbors of the project are waiting for the notice from the city that is supposed to be posted today, Thursday.
Wait..the same Greene street building construction that was heavily protested, mired in red-tape, and hasn’t been worked on all year. You don’t say?
Guess its a win for the neighbors – they don’t have to look next to a gentrified condo – they get a run down shell instead! Be careful what you wish for!
OBKid- That’s a smarmy comment, especially given you’re aware of the story’s chronology. What the OB community WISHES, and continues to WISH (in at least a half dozen other developments), is that developers behave responsibly with respect to what the Community Plan outlines, and that developers follow the same rules and regulations that everyone else does. This developer started on the wrong foot, stayed on the wrong foot, and left an eyesore and public nuisance that has taken the community MONTHS of City badgering to get resolved. And guess what? Everyone KNEW that if his design finally got rejected, that this is what he’d do…desert on the wrong foot as well. You might want to check your sarcasm… :/
What this community WISHES is for more housing in general and more affordable housing specifically. It’s easy for members of the community that actually own their houses to push back on all of these housing developments because you all already have a house. For young families such as mine, we don’t have such a luxury and we watch as 1) houses lay abandoned and in disrepair around OB, 2) developmental properties are mired in protest and OB planning red tape non-sense, and 3) rents continue to rise.
Nelco is a pos – not doubt there, However the community ran this project into the ground from day 1 – there was no chance of success and now we have not 1 but 2 abandoned properties at the location. All of which would be suitable family housing (debatable on the affordable part).
well, with luck maybe he’ll sell the site and suitable, compatible, affordable housing WILL get developed, by someone else. And just for the record, guess what? I was a renter in that very neighborhood, not a homeowner, and I was priced out of affordability, even in ‘north’ OB, considered less expensive than areas south. Do you honestly think that had this design actually been built that it would have been affordable for either buyers or renters? I may not be young, but I’m poor, and probably less advantaged than yourself. So don’t paint all the naysayers as folks with a lot of resources :-)
